Normally I read every placard, but this has way to much reading in a very small space. The lady who gave an overview before entering was knowledgeable. I could have listened to her longer. There were few artifacts. Not very interesting for young children.

The Old Slave Mart Museum is a well done historic site. We would have preferred more auditory options as most of the museum is nicely done posters with a lot of reading and a few artifacts. I would not recommend this site for easily bored teens or younger children.

We spent an hour at this museum. Worth the time and small entrance fee. Nicely laid out. It actually was a slave market, the main exhibit is the market. Everyone was solemn and quiet while reading the stories and walking through museum. The lady at the front desk gave us a brief history lesson before we entered the exhibit and she was very knowledgeable.

The docents are well versed in the historical reality of the slave trade in Charleston. It is a sobering experience but the museum is well done and the docents are very helpful.

I really struggle with words to use in describing the Old Slave Mart Museum. The museum is where slaves were once bought/sold because it became against the law to do so in the streets. The thought that an entire economy was built on the backs of human beings is appalling! It was once sanctioned and normal. I think this museum did a good job explaining slave trade. It was saddening to hear that freed slaves often would then buy their own slaves.
