Owner description: There's no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 - 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy. Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks. Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST). ~Look for the Red Sash~ Our symbol of a quality horse-drawn carriage tour of Charleston, South Carolina.

I have taken several tours throughout the years and by far this is my favorite carriage tour company! Highly recommend! Extremely friendly staff and tour guides are very knowledgeable. I cannot day enough!

This was just ok The problem is that the city controls the route each trip takes All the tour companies have to line up the carriage full of tourists to be assigned what sector to go with that load of passengers. This is assigned after you are on board. I guess this reduces congestion. But we got a really boring area. It was annoying. We didn't get the overview we were expecting This would be the same for all the companies.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with John and our majestic horse Buddy. This was a great way to see some of the beautiful residential architecture and a few of the city’s historic sights before we wore our feet out shopping on King St. We arrived about 15 min prior to our departure time and were lucky enough to go on an earlier tour thanks to couple of no-shows. We specifically chose this tour company because of their excellent care of the hardworking horses. Be aware that when you choose to do a carriage tour, you won’t know exactly which route you’ll take until you’ve set out. The city controls how many carriages go out per hour, and on which routes. Our tour did not include many of the main sites such as the famous houses & churches, rainbow row, the battery, etc. If there are specific sites you want to see, you might want to choose a different kind of your.
