If you have an hour or two, and want to learn all about Beaufort, this is the way to do it. They even have a dig site that you can work in, great for kids.

This relatively new museum, in an old courthouse, gives an excellent story of the early settlements on nearby Parris , beginning with the French Huguenots in the 1530s, right up to the present day. The story of the early days is largely unknown and much older than better-known settlements.

This new museum is quite fascinating. They have many interesting archives and also archaeological proof that the Spanish were the first to discover this area. Displays are informative and well-done. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and engaged. They have a nice overview film at the start. Worth the visit!

The Santa Elena museum consists of some very interesting details of the young history of our country. It provides a terrific and insightful view of the first settlement in our country contradicting so much of what we learned in school. It is obvious that this is just the tip of the iceberg in enlightening everyone about a very important part of the history of our country.

A wonderful Docent provided us with a "personal" tour as we were the only ones there when we arrived. Other folks came in after us. Much detail on early settlement by the French and Spanish. If you have a spare 2 hours you should check this out.
