Great food. We were passing through Pittsburgh and went there with a friend who lives nearby. The food was fantastic. We had the mixed green salad with lentils and harissa dressing, the charred shishito peppers with bonito, Pork cheek carbonara, duck breast with chestnut spatzle, and the thai-influenced scallops with shrimp spring roll. But the real highlight of the place was Megan, the mad-scientist mixologist (and our waitress). Once we started quizzing her about the cocktail list and ingredients, she started offering us tiny samples of weird, delicious spirits, and sold us on some of her special cocktails that did not make it to the menu yet. She carries a large spiral notebook with scraps of paper notes spilling out. I don't think I've ever talked a more knowledgeable bartender. We plan to return on the way back through town on our return trip.

I have been hesitant to go to spoon for sometime because I felt we were paying a lot for not necessarily much. I was wrong. We accepted an invitation outside of my comfort zone and I am happy we did. Our waiter Todd took sometime to warm up but he did and help us to have a great time. Their pomegranate martini was very good. The food was very good. We had the cheese soufflé was very good as was the bread. We had the duck cook “sous vide” and it was very tender. $$$.

How can I explain how great this restaurant is? It was fabulous! Started with the tagliatelle, others tried the blue cheese souffle and the DAnDan, all were able to share these dishes. The assorted rolls/bread in the basket were tasty. Had the salmon which was cooked just right, Others tried the wild boar ragu with pappardelle, while one had the duck breast. Everyone was delighted with their meal and the constant attention being paid to our table of 8 by the terrific wait staff. Even though we didn't need to have desert who could resist knowing what was in store! The Spoon Bar was decadent and shareable. The chai cheesecake hit the spot. Good thing we don't live close by or we will all become waddlers!

We dined at Spoon on a Saturday evening at 7 pm. Our reserved table was ready and the service was perfect. Our waiter was on point with the entire menu. The appetizers were all delicious. We had the blue cheese souffle, the tagliatelle and the barley risotto followed by the sweet potato gnocchi (the best!), prime cut NY strip and the scallops. We all raved about the food. Really exceptional. The only change I would encourage is to screen off the first few tables from the front door. It is drafty and cool if you're seated there.

We had a wonderful experience at Spoon. The meal was fantastic, service was impeccable, the sommelier suggested a fantastic bottle of wine. Definitely a must try in Pittsburgh.
