Clean but getting tired.

Attractive appearance to this hotel in a nice location on the Lagoon at Terrigal. Clean and comfortable but in need of serious maintenance to some of the outdoor posts and handrails that are suffering Sea weather exposure. Sliding flyscreen door falling apart from corrosion. Quite a lot of traffic noise at peak hours. Guest laundry provided. Our stay included a good breakfast.

Firstly anybody reading this, you must ignore the ratings that seem to come with online rating about this hotel. This not AAA and 4*. It is far from that, but in the 70s, 80s and possibly early 90's I could imagine these ratings being closer.

The rooms are beyond being tired, they are knackered and the whole place needs some major investment and modernisation, but if done this would quickly go back to AAA+ and 4*+ due to location and possibilities.

I can only go off our room but a quick look around and I think it fairly represented all other rooms.

I will give you our the biggest positives first - Brilliant Location!

We had a lagoon facing room that was 5 meters to the lagoon side and 20 meters and you can be paddling in the lagoon.
The lagoon very popular with young and old, nice and warm and the water not too deep ideal for a paddle.
If you don't fancy the lagoon then the beach is just 25m further and the sea is 2 minutes away from the room.
The fantastic Terrigal esplanade and centre with plenty of shops, cafe's, restaurants, bars etc is 5 minutes up from your room with a lovely walk along the beach or 10 mins walk over the bridge if you want to avoid sand in you tootsie's.
The location only spoiled by some dick that parked their high sided works trailer on the grass verge instead of using the car park less than 2 meters away blocking what would have been a great view from our sort of balcony space.

Sadly, despite young children playing around and in the lagoon we saw a number of dog walkers letting their dogs crap at the side of the lagoon and not picking it up! Council you need to get of your backside, get out at the weekend and start fining these selfish, inconsiderate, dirty buggers! then everybody wins apart from those poor excuses for a dog owner knobheads!

    The Room:
The staff were friendly and we got a smile on arrival and they had a well prepared check-in service. Plus a courtesy call advising what to-do if arriving late. Great!
The rooms were relatively clean, but with the built up grime of the 40 years of hard use.
The rooms are so very tired to be honest they are just knackered and need a full refurb.
    Aircon was good.
The rooms had full sets of mismatched cutlery, crockery and glasses. If the hotel stated this in their advertising then the level of mismatchedness could have been claimed to be a fashion or quirky feature of their hotel, we laughed but it was ridiculous.
The room did have a good kettle, toaster and microwave. Good job that they stopped charging for the Microwave.
The furniture could be much better thought out to provide much better useable space closer to sockets and more counter top space for buttering the bread to go with the fish and chips.
Like the rest of the room the bathroom needs a full renovation, shower is ok if you are shorter than 1.2m and a much lower BMI than me, because between my arse or my head I kept opening the door and soaking the bathroom every time I tried to wash my legs.
Outside the room was a small table and couple of chairs overlooking the lagoon, great for people watching, relaxing and having a wine without the sand, sadly few too many flies I think due to a leak gutter or run off water near our room. However, to get out of the patio doors and fly screen we found that you needed to be Atlas as they would not move along the runners without some major effort.
A $15 surcharge for daily room service, is a joke in this day and age.

As a stop off from South to North NSW, it is a place to sleep, but given the prices being quoted at the time of writing if not renovated then this is an over priced stay as you are paying 4* prices for a 2* motel, but great location ideally positioned when travelling on to somewhere else.

If modernised, would come back in a heartbeat, until then it will need to be one of the other places in Terrigal, Avoca or The Entrance.

I was part of a group of 60 women holding our State Conference at The Clan.
Everything was professionally run, nothing was a bother to the staff. All the staff were truly wonderful and very helpful. The food was delicious and of course the ambience was incredible. Couldn't recommend The Clan highly enough. We had the best time.

Room tip: Walk into Terrigal village or drive and park in the Wilson Carpark. It's free.

Hotel is nice little old style building right on the waters edge, tasty breakfast included in the hotel restaurant (lots of people seem to just come here for the meals only). Staff are really friendly and helpful. This is my 2nd stay and I will be back again for sure.

Booked to stay one night at The Clan for an early Father’s Day weekend as my partner loves fishing and I prefer to fish from the balcony with a wine. Perfect location, we stayed in a lake view room with the lake just a stone throw away. Short 5 minute walk to the beach where my partner and son was fishing. The room itself isn’t bad, the bathroom was old but it was ok. The service from the reception staff at the hotel and the restaurant was what makes this place worth the stay. The food and the coffee at the cafe was amazing and was free with the room. I would stay here again, wish we stayed for longer.
