This place is a great new addition to the Sawtell Cafe scene. They are making a space that has had problems in the past work well with friendly service, fresh-baked pastries and bread, and expert, light breakfast and lunch meals. I have also recommended the coffee to my cycling friends who require the best. Today's meal was a salmon omelette beautifully cooked with a creamy caper sauce. I am typically not a fan of relatively bitter greens but what I think was rocket did couple nicely with the other flavours. One negative would be the over-toasted baguette; I understand that true French bread has a crusty edge but these pieces were so hard throughout that even with butter I could not easily bite through them. Next time I will ask that it not be toasted. I started with a chocolate twist pastry, French name not recalled but it tasted like to was just out of the oven and delicious so I won't forget to order one or three of those again. During my previous visit the service was provided by a male barista who was also working the register and seemingly doing paperwork as well. He was far less friendly than the genuinely pleasant and helpful attitudes of several staff today. My partner who understands the French culture better than I, suggested that maybe that is more similar to how some staff in French cafes offer service but today's approach made the experience enjoyable without being intrusive. I felt welcome and my special orders were done perfectly. Given the competition from other excellent cafe staff in downtown Sawtell, keeping the service friendly and helpful will help keep this new entry in business for the long haul, IMHO. They certainly bring a unique high, quality product. Dropping the prices on the breakfasts would also be a help.
