I did not really know anything about Lord Howe Island before our arrival except the climate was tropical warm and the island was good for bird watchers. Having spent 10 days here, in the winter season, we will definitely be coming back. Even when it is raining or windy you can always find somewhere to enjoy yourself on the island. Everyone says hello, doors are not locked, children wear no shoes to school and are free to be children, push bikes are the normal mode of getting around and the fresh seafood is to die for. Bowker Beach House is a beautiful place to enjoy your time here. Lisa and Rod make you feel welcome and the accommodation is aimed at those who enjoy a little bit of luxury. Set back off the main path and nestled amongst the bush you are completely private. Complimentary bikes, snorkling equipment, paddle boards and a canoe are available for your use, or if you just want to do nothing, there is a great supply of reading material and loungers tempting you to recline and enjoy your surroundings. No telephone reception is not a hardship and complimentary internet is available if needed. A welcome pack of food and wines is a lovely way to start your stay, and you can top your supply up at the local shops. Previous reviewers have mentioned the house - and they are not wrong. I suggest you enjoy the deep bath and products supplied at the end of a day spent walking - or enjoying the beach. Perfect way to unwind with a glass of wine. Rod provides a shuttle to the local eateries at night and all places provide returns to your accommodation. The fish feeding at Neds beach is a must and when warmer, snorkling there is meant to be amazing. We will be back.
For our honeymoon we spent 5 nights at Bowker Beach House in late July and were blown away by the house - it is comfortable, exceptionally well-appointed, and Lisa and Rod have thought of everything. The kitchen was well-equipped with a supply of more than merely the staples. We made use of the Weber BBQ and enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the deck at various points. The bathroom has a luxuriously deep bath and the living area is well setup with an array of books, DVDs, as well as a TV with foxtel. The bedroom has plenty of storage and a very comfortable king-sized bed. Everything you need to enjoy the idyllic beaches is also provided - snorkelling gear, life jackets, beach towels, day packs, picnic set, and more. This meant that we didn't need to hire anything during our stay.
Bowker Beach House is ideally located - a very short stroll (under 100m) to the picture perfect Lagoon Beach where we were able to make use of kayaks belonging to the property. We cycled everywhere on the island (using the Bowker Beach House bikes) and Lisa and Rod have a wealth of local knowledge providing advice on tours and a dining locations.
We hope to return to Lord Howe Island and would love to stay at Bowker again. It was a treat, and worth every dollar. Thank you Lisa and Rod for your warmth and hospitality!
Beautifully appointed, very comfortable accommodation. Well situated on the island, walking and cycling distance to everything.
The island is absolutely gorgeous. Remote, quiet and pristine, you are guaranteed to switch off from the hurly burly and rejuvenate. Plenty of activities---bushwalking and things to do in and around the water, plus wonderful wildlife.
Bowker Beach House is a perfect base and lovely to spend time in, just relaxing.
My Husband had always wanted to visit Lord Howe Island, so when he turned 50 we decided to treat ourselves to Bowker Beach House for 5 nights. Upon our arrival we knew we were in for something special. Rod and Lisa were so welcoming and friendly. Our accommodation was first class. The finishes and furnishings were just beautiful and everything from bikes, SUP's, snorkelling gear and even backpacks for hiking were there for us and if we needed anything at all, Lisa and Rod were more than willing to help out. I wish we could have stayed longer. It was heaven. Thank you Lisa and Rod for creating your little slice of heaven and sharing it with us.
Thanks, Fiona Davies
My husband and I wanted to go book something special for our honeymoon. Looking at what other people had said and the photos that were available, Bowker Beach House seemed to fit the bill.
When we arrived on Lord Howe Island it became pretty clear that the experience that Lisa and Rod have created at Bowker Beach House not only met our expectations but far exceeded them.
Following our airport pick up and driving tour of the Islands key landmarks to get our bearings, Rod dropped us off at our private house and took us through all the mod-cons to make sure we knew what was where.
My husband and I aren't fancy people, but we do value quality, and comfortable luxury and Bowker Beach house has these in spades. From the super comfortable furniture; to the excellent complimentary wine, cheese and breakfast starter pack; to the bathrobes which we couldn't wait to put on to relax in the evening; the attention to detail and quality that Lisa and Rod have put in are top notch, and that's just the inside of the house!
The gardens around the house provide you with so much privacy. The walkways are well lit, and you feel like your only neighbours are the birds in the trees. The use of your own bikes, snorkel gear, stand up paddle boards and kayaks means you have so many options at your finger tips to explore this absolutely beautiful island.
This was the perfect location for our Honeymoon. We could explore a stunning location at our own pace, or just do nothing all day but take a short barefoot walk to the Lagoon beach (shoes really aren't required).
We had a fantastic stay and can't wait to come back.
Thank you Lisa and Rod for helping make our stay so perfect!
