Owner description: One of Australia’s best kept secrets The National Museum of Australian Pottery in Holbrook, is the only Museum dedicated to 19th and early 20th century Australian pottery.Over 1,500 pieces of domestic pottery are on display from over 120 Australian pottery companies established between European settlement and 1920. The Collection represents in many ways the struggle, courage and determination of many of our early potters who, often under difficult circumstances, produced basic and decorative pottery, frequently with spectacular results. The Museum is open Thursday to Tuesday, 9.30 to 4.30. For groups of 20 to 50 we have a special offer. Homemade Devonshire tea available.

A very interesting collection of Australian pottery from colonial times to the 20th century. The building was an old country department store and of interest in its own right too. We couldn't stay long, but we saw some amazing pieces. Well worth a detour from the main road.

Called in at this one on the spur of the moment, and it was so much bigger and better than expected. Only $5 per adult entry. Large, varied and interesting collection on two floors with many nostalgic pieces and educational too. Lovely old building too. Owner friendly and helpful without being over-zealous! For lovers of pottery and those who are not even sure, a good place to visit. I could have spent longer there [but had to leave due to limited stamina of travel companion].

Hard to rate really as you have to like pottery, but if you are interested an amazing window into the history of small pottery factories and businesses around Australia from 1788 till the present. Some really interesting pieces among all the stuff. I'd allow an hour for a leisurely pace. amazing old building too. And don't forget upstairs.

The artefacts are as Australian as you can get and are both interesting and of historical significance. What intrigued me most is on the outside of the building there are messages in braille (I'll leave it to you to work out what it says) and the tiled part of the building has a message in one of those weird bar codes you can scan with your phone..enjoy
