Comfortable stay but not impressed

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Mar 2023
Booked our stay here through Luxury Escapes. Can say that the room was relatively clean and well presented. The shower head was of poor quality though. We also had water spilling out around 1 of our down-lights during our stay. Our deal entitled us to 2 x 30min massages at the day spa. However, I was not contacted at all by the hotel prior to our stay to inform us that a) the day spa would be closed for 2 of the 3 days we were staying for and b) that we might have wanted to book our massages ahead of time to avoid disappointment. As a result we were unable to receive our complimentary massages which we were genuinely looking forward to. Breakfast buffet was ok but could have offered some green foods to accompany breakfast foods and out of the 2 mornings we ate there we were not once offered a tea or a coffee which was disappointing.

I was down there for an overnight visit and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were great as was the room. Dinner and breakfast were excellent and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. I'm happy to recommend it. All in all, a very enjoyable stay in a spectacular setting.

Short break from the big smoke to this sleepy town. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Large rooms and comfy beds. Small kitchen but great to have a fridge. Great check in. TV was temperamental. Unfortunately it rained much of our stay so the pool and outdoor area wasn't well maintained. The kid still had a swim but the water was freezing. Breakfast was ok. The pancakes were a favourite but the machine kept playing up. The town has very limited restaurant choices but The Hill Bar and Kitchen was great, as was the pizza place. Great beach nearby.

We stayed for a week, just long enough to explore, relax and play.

Perfectly located for exploring the area both near and far.

Room had everything you could need for a week - be aware though the hot plates in the kitchen are ‘decommissioned’ hence no pots and pans in the kitchenette. Comfortable bed, good size fridge/freezer.
Very nice to come back to the room every arvo/evening and find our bed made and fresh towels in bathroom.
Strangely no cushions on sofa (making it less comfortable than it could be) and the shower pressure lower than at home - but these aren’t dealbreakers for us.

Used the pool area quite a bit, enough sun loungers and sun shade - but we went outside of school holidays.

Staff in both the bar and the reception were friendly and accommodating. Enjoyed a drink and delicious local cheese share plate in the Bella Char bar (although the cheeses weren’t labelled which was a shame as we may have sought them out afterwards).

Had a fab week exploring the Minnamurra Rainforest, Bundanon, the Kiama to Gerringong walk (took train to Kiama and walked back along coastal path), cinema, good food in places like the Blue Swimmer in Gerroa and ice cream from The Pines Pantry in Kiama.

Would return!

This is our second visit here and hopefully won’t be our last. Have to say that I’ve noticed some upgrades since last year. The tennis court was up and running ( until it poured rain on our second day). The adults pool was open, different outdoor furniture in places.
The gardens are just lovely..
So this time we got a front facing upstairs room with a balcony that afforded a wonderful view to the mountain area and sea glimpses through the trees.
We were on a Luxury Escapes package again. Fabulous value.
Our room was spacious and spotless.. the little kitchenette is a wonderful thing to have in your room. Easy to prepare a lunch etc.
the bed was very comfy. Same with the lounge.. plenty of cupboards, and a place for luggage.. Tv had so many channels Plus Netflix etc.
the bathroom was also spacious- with an enormous bathtub ( which may not suit someone with mobility challenges) .
Lovely balcony furniture also.
The pool was so clean and the perfect temperature..
Our breakfast was included.
Not a huge buffet BUT everything you’d need. Great staff whizzing around both breakfast and dinner.
Dinner had a lovely small menu - but excellent ( large) meals .. and plenty to suit vegetarians.
Just a lovely hotel. Walking distance to the beach and village. And short drives to so many local sights.
Just love it..
Thanks to the whole team

We stayed here for family wedding and were charged $AUD330 per night - we had a balcony suite. We assuemd that this resort was four star resort - how wrong we were. Breakfast was included in the room rate - the breakfast was good - hot and cold meals and all the usual - cereals, toast, tea, coffee etc. - a definite PLUS

The room was HUGE - it had a king size bed, TV, fridge, Microwave, iron, ironing board - all the usual you would expect

On our first night - we had a family group dinner - a sad disappointment - the entree was prawns (which were OFF) or arancini - so so. The main course was barramundi (if it was barramundi) - poached with lots of baked potatoes or beef. The meal was a great disappointment

The room had major issues - the TV did not work - with a note attached that due to bad weather there is no signal for free to air stations - Foxtel was available but no chance to get free to air through foxtel.

The room had a "kitchenette"- microwave and fridge - with NO crockery all - just two cups and two glasses and the cutlery consisted of a teaspoon and two desert spoons - very disappointing. There is no chance to make some food for yourself

The bathroom was as expected - however ther was no special soaps or shampoos - just the ordinary refill containers - not what you would expect in a four star hotel. The bathroom could have used a make over or a lick of paint

The bed - we had a king bed which was a hard as a billard table - so we had bugger all sleep - a definite MINUS

Last of all - during our stay our room was NOT made up by housekeeping at any time - a DEFINITE MINUS

There are many accomodation choices in Gerringong and I would not reccomend the Mercure resort - find somewhere else.

We have stayed at many Accor mercure hotels/resorts around the world and this is the most we have ever paid and we were sadly disappointed - AVOID unless you enjoy being overcharge for what can only be described as poor accomadation value

Room tip: Avoid roooms that face the freeway
