Byron Bay YHA
Reviewed 20 June 2017 via mobile

The hostel is very centrally located and only minutes from bus stop and supermarket. You can easily get to light house too. The staff was awesome and very helpful. The rooms were spacious and clean. Bathrooms were very clean as well. They are doing construction but it wasn't that noisy or annoying. The kitchen is outside which stinks when it's cold, but they have plates and cooking stuff for all to use. They have cheap pancakes in the morning, some days cheap lunch, and movie nights too. Wifi is ok but that's been the case at most hostels, meaning fairly slow but available. They provide towels for small fee as well. This hostel was good and I could stay at it again.

Hi Danielle - delighted you enjoyed your stay! We are extending the hostel at the moment - so come back later in the year and try out our great new wing of rooms, and a big new kitchen!

After a rough start in another hostel, this hostel really made my time in Byron great again! It's really fancy/impressive with everything needed (kitchen, toilets etc) and even a pool.

The rooms are spacious and beds are not cramped into the room like some hostels do for a dorm room. Lockers big enough for large rucksacks are supplied in each room.

Very clean in the general areas (to chill out in), toilets, showers and kitchen.

The WiFi is free and useable from the reception or common room. It can't be used in the rooms without paying for it. This wasn't great considering I'd paid enough. Don't know why they were trying to charge for this.

The only reason I haven't given this hostel 5 stars was because they charge to store luggage. Most hostels do this for free. I felt like they were milking backpackers for extra.

The hostel is very chilled and starts to close down from 10pm.

The pancakes Monday to Friday are great. $1 for 3 pancakes. Nice!

Sadly, no tea or coffee supplied!

Hi - glad you had a better experience of Byron staying with us! Just to explain a bit on charges - YHA tries to offer the best quality facilities to our guests. Some of these have a cost to provide, and rather than just increasing the overnight fee, we make it an optional facility as we think that is fairer. Wifi in Australia is unfortunately very costly to provide compared to other countries around the world and that's why we offer a free wifi hotspot but give people the choice to upgrade to the faster premium in-room service for $5 a day. Likewise with the lockers - we could provide a free, unmonitored luggage room with very little security for people's belongings. Instead, we offer a much safer individual locker at most of our hostels, often with power points so you can leave things charging.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your travels in Australia!

I was a bit scared that it would be busy but it wasn't. Overall a good atmosphere. The showers were clean, even the temporary kitchen. Of course, the free wifi sucks, but it had always been like this in all the YHA that I've been to. This place is close to everything. Friendly staff :)

Very close to Woolworths and the centre of the city. It is a well equipped hostel, clean bathrooms and clean kitchen. Bedrooms are very basic, we had a 5 bedroom and it was okay. Outside area is nice with pool and tables to eat. One of the better YHA hostels compared to YHA Sydney Central or YHA Coffs Harbour. Very friendly staff everywhere, not that noisy party hostel. AA lot of international guests, not just germans. Greyhound bus station is a 2min walk from the hostel. You can hire surf boards if you want. I can recommend the black dog surfing school. If you want a godd stay in Byron Bay, i can really recommend this YHA.
