Of course, you're staying at a backpacker inn, so you're going to get what you pay for. Saying that, my short stay has been average. The beds, toilets and showers were clean and well-maintained. Lots of kids party at night and they get really noisy until 11 in the evening. Afterwards it's gonna be quiet until they start shuffling back and whispering loudly. There's that to expect. Didn't get much sleep but if you'll be knocked out cold, beds are pretty comfy. The location is very good too - away from where the action is, but near enough to walk.

Room Tip: If you can, get the bottom bed.

It is a very nice hostel which is very clean and the personal is very friendly, so they will always give you tips if you want also you get very much advantages from the hostel like reductions for surfboards.

There are two YHAs in Byron Bay. But it doesn't really matter if you get them mixed up as they are only a short walk from each other.

The Byron Bay YHA has a fantastic location. You can walk everywhere - to the beach, shops, supermarkets, bars. Byron has a lovely small town feeling and it is a nice place to visit. You can understand why people end up staying longer.

I stayed in a nine bed dorm which was a bit cramped but had big lockers to use so I was happy. The bunk beds were comfortable but a little shaky which meant that the other person sometimes woke you up. No biggie but just a little annoying.

The bathrooms were clean, the kichen was massive and well equipped. No free tea, coffee or sugar though.

There are large communal areas to hang out and even a swimming pool to use if you wanted. They had a pool table and surf boards and wetsuits you could hire.

No free wifi and the connection was terrible.

The staff were really friendly, knowledgeable and you got a free pancake in the morning for brekkie.

I would recommend this hostel but the other YHA looked good too so I would stay there next time to be able to make a comparison.

Byron bay is the most amazing place! Luckily our hostel made it even better. We stayed in a 4 bed female dorm it was really spacious and clean! Nice walk into the centre took about 10 minutes to get to the beach. It's very lively at night so it's easy to meet people but if you want a quiet night they're really good with there cut off time!

Pros. Nice staff, convenient location, pool

Cons. Endless noise. Came here to relax, it's just teens going nuts. 24/7. There is absolutely no peace and quiet whatsoever. Screaming, door slamming, breaking glass. Driving me nuts, Fans ineffective, Massively overpriced, No free wifi, Room not clean, Bed terrible
Smelly drains, breakfast stale and overpriced. Everything is just a massive money making exercise here. cash has become king in Byron, very different to 10 years ago.
Is YHA losing it's way it would certainly appear so? This is nothing like my previous experience or maybe I'm just getting older
