My favourite snorkelling experience along the East coast. We had been up to the Outer Reef around Magnetic Island and also at the Whitsundays, but this topped both. An abundance of turtles, wobbegongs, and even an enormous manta ray. Quick and easy - only 10 minutes out to the dive site, the equipment very well maintained, and the staff both friendly and experienced. All in all a great experience and incredible value at the price. Our only regret is that we only found out about how good Julian Rocks were when we were on our way and didn't have any more time in our itinerary to spend there. Do yourself a favour, especially if you are restricted by either time or money - don't waste either by spending hours on expensive trips heading to the outer reef - everything you want to see is right there at Byron...
Responsible attitude to weather and dive conditions. Helpful and expert staff. Flexible when needed. Knowledgable about the dive sites and flora and fauna at Julian Rocks. Boats looked well maintained. Thoroughly recommended.
I've been diving with Sundive for more than a decade. This is because the dive site is a wondrous mix of tropical and temperate water species; it's simply a glorious part of Australia (and the world) to be in. More than this, the long-time business owner (Giac) is extremely personable, and absolutely committed to safety and service.
The dive site itself (most typically Julian Rocks although there are a number of other places) is suitable for beginners through to advanced. Julian Rocks has also long been a haunt for photographers and biology lovers since the biodiversity is extraordinary and the staff (esp. 'Dr Dave') really know their fishes.
Notably, there is good community and council interest in protecting and maintaining the dive site's natural value. To me this is an important thing to look for from a local dive community.
Sundive is also a great place to learn to dive since they have world class instructors (Rob and Jeff are especially patient and awesome). For non-divers the business also offers snorkel and whale watching options too. I wasn't remunerated in any way for writing this review. I'm just a long time lover and supporter of this extraordinary business based on my wonderful experiences with it over the years. If you're planning to throw yourself in the Pacific Ocean any time soon, then do it with Sundive!
I did the basic PADI open water dive certificate in January 2013. Everything from the first phone call to book the course was excellent. Staff great and very encouraging. Our instructor Koen deserves special mention - great guy and excellent teacher (and sense of humour). The diving at Julian Rocks is amazing and I will definitely be back.
Had a great experience from the moment I called to arrange a dive and spoke to a very helpful young man.. Went with my 16 yr. old grandson who had never been scuba diving so was a complete novice. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. My grandson was so thrilled with the whole day that he has not stopped talking about it. Would definitely use this company again if we get back to Byron Bay and highly recommend them.
We have been travelling to Byron Bay for 20 years and love the place. However, we have never visited Julian Rocks, despite seeing countless dive boats heading there every day! We took a snorklling trip with Sundive and the entire experience was brilliant. Two adults and four teenage girls had a great time - and we thought the cost at $55 per head was good value. The team at Sundive make it easy and we loved every minute of our experience. Just one tip - pick your day carefully. We had beautiful conditions (no wind) but it would not be so good in tricky conditions. The team at Sundive will advise you.
