Knowing it was Mother’s Day and we had only just arrived in Cornwall, we knew it would be very difficult to find somewhere to eat, having looked on TripAdvisor we saw it had 4.5 review score. However, how disappointed were we!
When I booked we were given a table for 12.45pm, we arrived to be seated in the middle of the bar, next to the fire which was not lit. Freezing cold. A very pleasant waitress came to take our order, we ordered the baked Camembert to start and two roast beef dinners. When advertising baked Camembert, it is advisable to bake it and not put it in the microwave, the dinners where then served, the slab of meat disguising it’s self as beef was so over cooked, the cabbage was yellow and looked as though it had been boiled for 2 hours, over cooked carrots and the Yorkshire puddings were burnt and turned upside down to disguise this. The gravy was like dish water, I would suggest who ever was cooking either takes lessons on cooking or buy a few descent cook books. Or better still employ a decent chef. Our plates were cleared and we were not offered a dessert, maybe that was a saving grace! We now know why there were tables free for Mother’s Day, a lesson learned here it think. Not on my list to visit, ever again, unless there is a massive improvement. A great shame as the waitress was very good at her job and the pub is situated in a nice area.

Absolutely amazing meal. 12 of us, we pre ordered as we were a big group and the meals came out really quick and were so tasty and well presented. Such friendly and welcoming staff. Would definitely recommend.

Booked a table at this pub for a night with friends, the atmosphere, selection of beers food, service and quality of food were all exceptional; it is been over 20 years since I last visited this pub and returned for nostalgia as I used to love it so much, I was not disappointed we had a great night with lovely food which was rounded off nicely by how little the bill came to. Would highly recommend this pub.

We have never been to this pub before but ventured down for some lunch, arrived at 11.50 and some guy was sat out the front (assuming the landlord) he just stared at us as we drove in and parked, we then got out the car and walked towards the pub, all the time he just stared at us, we asked him if the pub was open, he just sat there and grunted “well no! We will open at 12” felt very uncomfortable so left, but said thanks and walked back to the car and drove away, all the time he just sat there and stared as we drove out, it was like a scene from the hills have eyes! such a shame but such attitude, it felt like because we were not local we were not welcome no worries we won’t be back!
