We walked to Portmellon from Gorran Haven for Sunday lunch and were so disappointed. The food was just dreadful with the choice of roast beef or roast beef. The meat did not appear to have been carved from a joint and was over cooked and like leather. The desserts did not appear to be home made and when we asked for coffee we were told by the lady "we only have instant here, no posh coffee". That just about sums up the place. The whole place was in dire need of redecorating, especially the toilets which had an empty soap bottle, no paper towels and and old towel hanging on the back of the door to dry your hands.
We will not return as there are lots of other lovely pubs and restaurants nearby which are far better than this one, that offer a good choice of fresh home cooked food of good quality.

I visited with wife and friends. It's an attractive location directly facing a sandy cove, so gets lots of in-season holiday trade, suggesting no strong impetus to try hard. That 'anything will do' attitude reflected in their staff, their cleanliness and their food. Given that fresh fish is landed just a mile away at Mevagissey - the harbour there is owned by the local fishermens' cooperative - there is no excuse for being served with small, stale, undercooked portions of nondescript and tasteless 'far eastern' fish. The chips also had seen better days.

There is excellent pub fare on offer elsewhere/nearby e.g. in Mevagissey, and my wife agrees we would travel miles to avoid The Rising Sun Pub in future.

Popped in here for a drink and is was okay but even better if you can sit outside with your drinks as it is a beautiful cove to watch the sea and the surrounding coastline.

This pub could be so much more but is let down by poor cleanliness and lack of attention to detail.
We requested a sea view but the room was on the small side and rather tired.
Room 2 has a limited view of the bay and en-suite but was rather cramped. The room has an en-suite but the shower was tepid.

I was surprised no clean towels were provided and the room was not cleaned.

Breakfast is served between 8am and 9am and is served in the pub if travelling with a dog. The tables were sticky and off putting. Breakfast is cooked fresh and was good.

We checked out one night early and were bemused to still be charged full price including the fee for the dog to stay!

Wifi only works in bar.

It was not surprising that the pub had vacant rooms in July, obviously others knew better!

There is outside seating by the pub which provides a nice place to sit, have a drink and take in the views however the coastal path is the road so not quite what was expected.
