Let's start with the real positives about Bowood. The staff are really friendly and eager to please. The golf course is really interesting, and quite deceptive. Lots of wide fairways on most holes, but quite long in the wind. A bit wet in places this time of year, but I reckon it would be great to play in the summer.
In my view this is a golf course first and foremost and a hotel second. The bar is a mix of spike bar and pub lounge, but lacks the comfort for a hotel stay. The pool table, dart board TV and fruit machine determine the atmosphere of the room. The hotel bedrooms are large, clean, but a little old fashioned. More functional than comfortable. Cooked breakfast is help yourself, but could be served hotter. Not much of a healthy alternative.
If you want a golf break, come to Bowood, it's good value.More
