“Fabulous hotel for a special occasion”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

My husband booked this hotel as a surprise for me to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and couldn't have picked anywhere nicer. The setting is so beautiful, the staff are friendly and attentive and the rooms are gorgeous.

We stayed in one of the cottages and enjoyed a suite with a lounge area, large bedroom and luxury bathroom with double ended bath, rain shower and a tv! It's just like having your own little home for your stay and we loved it.

The main manor house is a lovely building and we had a drink here in the bar which was most enjoyable. We had brought out own champage which was a gift but they were more than happy to provide an ice bucket & glasses which was over and above what we expected.

The cottages are all unique and we'd have loved to have a nose aroud each one to see how different they all were.. ours was beyond expectation and toasty warm on a chilly February visit. The decor is contemporary whilst maintaining the beautiful features of the building.

We would love to stay here again and maybe next time we might get to dine in the restaurant (it was fully booked this time) which we will look foward to. Breakfast was very enjoyable with a large selection that has something for everyone.

Castle Coombe is a charming village to walk around but if you are looking for excitement this probably isn't for you.. relaxation, romance and enjoying the company of others is the order of the day here and we loved every moment.

Room Tip: We stayed in the cottages and would highly recommend this for privacy and modern features.

We stayed for two nights so that we could go to my car club day at the Castle Combe track and I picked it as there was an excellent offer on and it was a Best of British promotion. We stayed in one of the row of cottages and had the most fantastic accommodation - four poster, sitting room with table, chairs, easy chairs, TV - lots of atmosphere. However for me it was the bathroom which was A-MAZ-ING. `It was nearly as big as most hotel bedrooms with a big double claw foot bath, twin sinks, and a wet area with rain bar shower and a TV -BLISS. We had in our room a picnic basket with picnic blanket, strawberries, cream and a bottle of an award winning English champagne to have in the wonderful grounds. The staff were the best and so helpful, the food was good, and there are lovely walks around the village. It was wonderful and so very English!

We visted here between Christmas and New Year 2011 with an excellent deal of DBB for £240. The booking manager was very attentive, answering all my questions through email promptly. On arrival we were quickly taken to our 'room' away from the main building on the 'street' of cottages. We were impressed to have a reserved parking space, as most of these 'rooms' do. Our cottage - it can only be described this way - was double fronted and had its own front door, a lounge, huge bed and a wonderful bathroom. On booking you can specify everything from pillow type to features of your bathroom. We asked for a walk in 'exerience shower' and were greeted with a bath too - and a TV embedded in the wall. In fact the room had 3 TVs in total - not that you need them. The other rooms down the street ranged from the guestroom (like ours) to fully equipt houses for the whole family including kitchen, dining rooms etc (we were nosy neighbours!) I recommend asking for a room away from the main house.
The hotel itself is set in the quaintest English village, hidden away in the Wiltshire countryside. Olde-worldy does not cover it. Beautiful. The hotel was covered in fairy lights and really did look magically beautiful and Christmassy. The hotel houses the main restaurant and different lounges to rest, have afternoon tea, after dinner coffee and cocktails. The bar is lovely. Everything about this hotel is designed to be traditionally English. It is lovely.
We had a dinner in the Michelin starred restaurant and it was divine. The restaurant is the far end of the hotel in a large spacious room. The tables are well spaced so you feel very private. The food is outstanding and, while it may not be the most extravagantly artsy (as some Michelin places are) the star is very much earnt. The wine list is extensive and quite pricey- as all the drinks are here. We heard others asking for wine advice but felt that the somlier did not really offer much more insight than the wine list did, which was disappointing. Do not expect to eat here and for it to be quick. The meal is supposed to take the whole eveing . At times we thought perhaps there could be less of a wait between but courses but that is the only criticism I could offer.
I would (and have) recommend visiting this hotel and restaurant as it was an excellent experience. It was the first time I have not wanted to leave a hotel in a long time - I think, the greatest barometer there is.

Room Tip: Ask for one not in the main building. Discuss your 'desires' with the booking staff - they...

Special is the one word which I think aptly describes The Manor House Hotel. We've stayed there 3 times now and it's probably still our all-time favourite hotel. The 1st time, we stayed in a room with a huge 4-poster bed and a lovely roll-top bath with plenty of room for the two of us. Then we stayed in one of the mews cottages which was out of this world! This time we were in a 'traditional' room which, although not quite as outstanding as the other two rooms, was still pretty special.
We had a Champagne Afternoon Tea which filled us up so much that we had to forsake the culinary delights of the Michelin-starred Bybrook Restaurant in the evening. We had breakfast there though and although I had the scrummiest almond croissant I'd ever had, Mr. C had the Full English and really couldn't praise it enough.

It's the attention to detail and the willingness for all the stff to go 'that extra mile' which makes The Manor House so outstanding. We had a few niggles in our room but a quiet word with reception and abracadabra the issues were dealt with before we knew it.

Can't wait to go there again. I can't recommnd it highly enough.

Room Tip: All the rooms we've ever stayed in have been gorgeous!

We stayed in one of the cottages which was delightful. It was cosy, warm and extremely comfortable. The food was so good that words cannot describe it! The staff were very friendly and helpful without being obsequious. We will certainly return to this piece of paradise.
