Brush up on your Spanish and don't get rooked into the shuttle at the border. A cab should get you there in about an hour and cost roughly 25 American. for the cab , in other words four people. The A/C bus ($14 per person) will drop you on the road and then have a guy pick you up for $40 more. Any way Mama Sara will take good care of you and in some cases will cook snacks in the morning and night. Rustic yes but authentic. Private baths and rooms in most cases and TV...

Room Tip: We stayed upstairs with the kids three beds and nice view

Mama Sara picked us up on the street after we didnt get a double room at our prefered choice - Casa Oro. Lucky us! We ended up staying four instead of the planned two nights. Our very clean room had a double bed, a window, fan, private bathroom with a good (cold) shower. We paid 25 USD per night and enjoyed the hospitality of Mama Sara. She often gave us a slice of water melon or some of her home cooked very delicious food. The house is close to the beach and everything else you need in San Juan. We would definitely recommend staying here!

Room Tip: Second floor, with private bath. It's more quiet and has a window.

Mara Sara's is the place to stay in San Juan Del Sur! You can not beat her location, her customer service, and her price! For $20 you get a room, use of kitchen, friendly service, and home made food! The terrace is a great place to enjoy a coffee while looking upon the ocean! Sara is the best host I have been around and I felt like I was one of her children! The food that she made was an added bonus!

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the kitchen have better wi-fi acess

I stayed here for 3 nights. The place is clean, very well located and a great value for the money you pay. There is a shared kitchen, well equipped to cook basic meals. There is a cozy living area with a balcony overlooking the street that leads you to the beach in less than 2 minutes. The place is very quiet, but you might hear some noise from the surroundings on the weekend.

Mama Sara is a kind host and will give you food she cooked to try out. This was very appreciated. She also gave us some valuable information. Easy to reserve, she replies in a timely manner. Will definitely go back there if I return to SJDS

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel. The host was very nice offering food, but the room was not as good as we thought it will be. All the rooms are in a corridor and can be very noisy if the other people decide to have drinks until late in the living room. Fans can also be very noisy and rooms have no openings for fresh air to come in, which can lead to an extremely hot room's temperature.
Location is good and price is reasonable.
