We stayed in the older part of this older motel which needs some TLC. While it has recently been painted, had new flooring and curtains installed, it needs some upgrades for the very small rooms. That being said, it has one of the most amazing views of anywhere I've ever stayed. You can lie in bed or sit on your own little deck and watch whales swimming by! It's right on the ocean with easy beach access and is very quiet. There is a glassed in pool and hot tub overlooking the ocean as well as a common area with large screen tvs, piano, games and full scale kitchen for general use. There have been recent additions built behind the existing motel which look more like 2 story cottages but they don't have the amazing view. Our unit had a king size bed but there are ones with two queens and several units that have a suite with a kitchen and living room with fireplace. They are pet friendly as well. We stayed for two days and the maid service didn't service the room until mid afternoon although we were gone from early morning.

This was a reasonably priced place, quiet and clean. With some minor attention, it could be a much nicer stay: paint, a better shower curtain, some new furniture, brighter lights etc. But the view and the experience of seeing the whales so close by, could not be matched at any price.

Room Tip: Choos Rm. 12 if you want to lie in bed and look out at the ocean!

We spent two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a really old section ( circa 1948 ) cinderblock and basic and then there is a relatively new set of quadplex buildings. These have a nice kitchen and sitting room and a separate bedroom and bath. The balcony offers great views of the Sunset and ocean beyond. It is an easy walk into Yahats, but be advised everything closes early ( Think 9 p.m.). That being said we had a great time during our stay ......

Almost hate to recommend this place, don't want to see a "no vacancy" sign when I pull up! An aging icon, the hotel is right on the ocean and consists of numerous rooms encircling an easily-accessed central communal area. The rooms are adequate if not opulent. The communal area has a fully functional kitchen for everyone's use. Local fish from the town fishmonger is about a minute away on the coast highway--we bought some mighty tasty halibut and then prepared it very conveniently in the communal kitchen--it was a third the cost of going out to eat, we had organic veggies and rice to accompany, and the portions we made for ourselves were large--in short the concept of giving guests a free kitchen is a winning point, and one that other hotels would do well to copy. This would also limit the amount of quasi-cooking done in hotel rooms, which really benefits no-one, especially not the person trying to clean leftover rice out of the drain of the bathroom sink! We adore the pool at the Yachats Inn. It was built at a time when oldgrowth timbers and expert craftsmanship were still available. The water is warm, the pool is large, and affords a 180 degree unobstructed view of mother ocean. Good food, adequate sleep, a walk by the pounding surf, and a warm swim. This is known as a vacation!

Room Tip: If you're picky, ask for the modern rooms

I have now stayed in both the new and old construction this hotel has to offer. The new construction are the only rooms to consider. I have stayed in the new building often and it is great. Unfortunately, I was the victim of someone else making my reservation and got stuck in the old rooms. First off, they smell like mold, dog and dirty carpet. There was mold in the shower and in the water faucet knob. the soap dish had pink fungus growning. My towels were dirty, and smeared with the previous customer's liquid makeup. The walls are made of painted cinder block to look like authentic prison cells. There was a constant draft coming in from the door, slider door and window. If you stay at this hotel, you must ask for the new construction-it's fabulous. If they don't have any left and offer the old construction...run...run fast.

Room Tip: Always ask for the new construction rooms!
