We stopped here on our way from Corvallis to Boise. easy to get off highway and back on! Food was extremely good, but you have to try the cinnamon buns! Staff was extremely friendly and courteous. Food came quickly with large portions. The potato soup was killer! Lots to look at with a trains everywhere and a John Deere sitting in the dining hall. Kid friendly! Highly recommend!

The food and service is reliable. They offer a wide variety of home style favorites and the desserts never disappoint. The bar menu is very good with daily specials. Being greeted as "cousin" as well as the cow or chicken sounds when you open the door are not my favorites but I always enjoy the food and service.

They tout their country cooking, but food was poor to mediocre. Onion rings were OK. Pot roast was not great, and chicken fried steak was awful. The best part was our waitress, who was very nice, with a sense of humor.

Thank you JDW952, we appreciate your feedback! We're delighted our staff made a great impression, and disappointed our food did not. The chicken fried steak is among our most popular items, and clearly, we didn't do it justice for you. We're sorry you didn't receive the Cousins' experience you deserved and sincerely hope we'll have a chance to redeem ourselves for you. Thanks again for sharing your comments, we look forward to earning your confidence on your next visit!

While visiting The Dalles, we reviewed the top three or so restaurants. We were dressed casually, so we moved down the list one or two until we chose the Cousin's. Qualities listed were huge portions and down home country cooking.

The portions were absolutely normal on the three dishes we chose - a salad with crispy chicken, onion soup, and a "Knife and Fork" open faced burger with mushrooms and cheese.

The burger could have been used to sole shoes and only by dipping it in the onion soup and soaking it could it be eaten and safely swallowed. The two halves of the burger roll were extremely soggy and not completely toasted. The four mushroom slices were fine.

There were no issues one way or the other with the salad, neither here nor there. Not memorable, not horrible. Not inexpensive.

The waitress was efficient but overly effusive, overly attentive, overly charming (i.e. it did not feel natural at all). Again, it was not bad in any way but left us with far from a quiet and calm meal.

To sum it up, it must have been a very, very off day if all the reviews were to be believed. We should have asked the waitress to return the bad burger but she seemed very busy and taking a large number of customers.
