Seaside in the summertime is a tourist nightmare. If you like expensive hotel rates, crowds and dumb tourists that walk and drive slow, then that is a good time for you to visit. I stayed here last weekend at the Hillcrest and the rate was only $76 per night, which was much less than you would normally pay for a night at any Seaside hotel.

My buddy and I came down to get some early fall surf nearby and stayed at this place. Hillcrest is an older, beach style hotel that is painted a turquoise color. The rooms face a center parking lot with the hotel office down below on the corner of the lot. The lot itself is small and will only fit about 3-4 cars, all other parking is street parking out back. The best part about the place to me was that it was relatively quiet.

Rooms are pretty spacious; I had a double queen bed room with a small LCD wall mounted TV with cable and a DVD player. I think there was a fridge in the room, but didnt use it. The beds are comfortable too and I slept like a boss. I guess the hotel has a spa and sauna, but I didn't visit it.

The staff was friendly, rates were inexpensive, nothing to complain about so I would definitely come back in the future.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to review us. We are happy you had a peaceful respite and hoped the waves were good. We look forward to seeing you the next time you visit the Oregon Coast. We do have a public dry heat sauna for guest use , so maybe next time you will have time to use it.

Best regards, Ruth

I am going to start with the positives. Ruth, who checked us in, was amazing. Very helpful. I forgot something at the front desk and she brought it to me. When we mentioned where we were going to eat she called the restaurant to confirm they were open. She offered to carry our bags. Very very nice. We were in room 123 second floor 2 queens. The hotel is 2 blocks from the ocean. From the balcony outside our door we had a very nice view of the ocean. Not a full view but it was very nice. Table and 2 chairs outside to take it all in. The room was very large. Table with 4 chairs and the chair upholstery was in excellent condition. Sink was separate from toilet and shower/tub. Plenty of counter space. Tub/shower appeared to be brand new. Shower curtain and liner was in excellent condition. Towels were nice. Water was hot. Dvd player in room with tons of dvds to choose from at office. The negatives are the exterior looks weathered / worn / needs care. Didn't look at all like the white coastal retreat I saw pictured. The majority of car parking is on the street. That wasn't a problem for us but if you like your car right outside your room that's probably not going to happen. The drapes were not hung really well. The toilet seat was pretty thin. I am slender and felt uncomfortable sitting on it. We had to obtain a screwdriver from the office so seat could be tightened . Flush power was concerning. The bathroom sink was a little sad and didn't drain well. The carpet seemed clean but was really low quality and should be changed. The mattresses were okay but nothing special. The room appeared to be clean. But with all the exterior issues going on and the inconsistencies in the room it made me wonder how clean the room really was. We stayed 2 nights. It was an okay experience. My biggest frustration came with what I thought was a misrepresentation of what I expected based on website pictures. The registration area was extremely cluttered and disorganized. The exterior just wasn't in good shape. Which leads one to wonder what is going on inside. Again our stay was okay. Not sure I would return.

Room Tip: Room 123 had a nice view of the ocean. Not a full view but a nice view considering ocean is 2 block...

Have stayed her two times with a group of friends who were participating in the annual Hood to Coast Race. The staff always treats us special and is extremely helpful with any unusual requests that we have. No matter what we need (wine glasses, cups, chairs, pop up tent) they always have it. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with a seaside charm that makes staying here fun!

Never doing business with hillcrest inn again. They kicked us out on the first night for having a few friends walk into our room to change cloths. Screwed up the entire vacation for us. Apparently we are not allowed to have guest visit the room during our stay.

Hello, David

It is unfortunate when a guest agrees to our policies and chooses to not to follow them. We are sorry to say we could not allow non registered guests in our rooms while the registered guest was not in attendance. While we understand as a frequent traveler, you feel you may choose to occupy the room as you please, it is for all guest safety we have these policies in place. As we do not plan to change these policies in the future, we have refunded the 2 nights you didnot stay and wish you many happy travels in the future.

Best Regards, Ruth

Big advantage over the large hotels: Hillcrest is so friendly and treats you to DVD's, popcorn, beach toys, beach blankets and towels, and even a cart to carry it all to the beach! They have a grassy courtyard with grills and picnic tables. Thanks for making us feel so welcome!
