My family (mother, father, 3 sons ages 11, 13 and 15, and grandma) stayed during the week of August 2 – 9, 2014. I cannot recommend this property, especially in the warmer weather, until owner/management makes repairs. It should have been a charming cabin experience, although the downstairs furniture is a bit worn. Instead faulty windows made this a less than fond experience.
The windows are in desperate need of repair. When we arrived for check in at 4:00 PM the outside temperature was 85-88 degrees. The inside of the cabin was stifling. I spent the first hour propping open all first floor windows with wood from the outdoor woodpile and bending screen frames to as straight as possible to help reduce the bug and mosquito intrusion. The dining room window had a note on it “Do not open. Window may fall out.” The second floor bedrooms have windows that open at the bottom and are on one wall only. The only way to achieve airflow is via room-to-room cross ventilation. The bedroom with the queen bed has a non-functioning window. A note states “Do not open.” Screws are in place to make sure no one attempts to open the window. A ten-inch fan was on the floor. Presumably meant to provide air movement. This room remained stale and stuffy even as the mid-week temperatures lessened. The small fan is the only fan provided by owner/management. The regions natural night cooling did little to help. The affects of temperature change were not felt until 3 am.
The cabin is rented without the renter having any knowledge of the window issues. Through one phone call upon arrival and subsequent email correspondence the rental agency admitted knowledge of the window issues yet they contend they have not hidden the window problems from the renter. They contend it is due to the owner’s reluctance to fix the problem. There is nothing in the cabin description, or in the renter contract, indicating there is a window issue.
Management offered a 10% discount on an open-ended future vacation rental. This offer is too little, too late.
