We have stayed at the Heathman several times over the past few years. We could justify the expensive rate (and parking) due to it's location to downtown and to friends who live in the city. I have found it annoying that they list having L'Occitane products prominently in their room descriptions, but have yet to see them on any of our stays (not that we stay somewhere for the bath products, but if they list a specific brand, it should be in the room). Our most recent stay was in one of their "newly renovated" rooms on the 8th floor. The quality of materials and workmanship were terrible. The flooring appears to be cheap vinyl. The trim seems to be rough-stock wood that has not been sanded (watch out for splinters) with paint slapped on. None of the trim is square at the corners of casings. There were paint splatters on the floor throughout the edges of the room. The bathroom trim had large chunks missing, the towel bar was practically falling off the wall, the plastic tile on the walls (it's not ceramic or stone tile) had been cracked, and a cheap plastic cover had fallen off the wall to expose wiring in the wall. There was a hole in the wall at the base of the shower and gaping nail holes at the base of trim on the bathroom door casing. It was almost as if the room hadn't been completed yet, the quality of work was so poor. If it was still under construction, then it shouldn't have been made available for guests. If this is considered the final renovated product, then the quality is unacceptable for the price of the hotel. Either way, we won't be back again.

Great location central to most of downtown Portland business, food and shopping. Clean and modern with Excellent and very helpful Staff. Room booked through 2nd party so room size was somewhat tight. Parking available but expensive as in most major cities.

The Hotel has a great old time charm to it. I was not expecting such modern decor in the rooms. The staff is phenomenal. From front desk to houskeeping... They even knew guests by name! I could not have asked for a better stay in Portland. The hotel is close to the river, and near many great restaurants. I will definitely select the Heathman for my next stay in Portland.

Very nice hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, HOWEVER, $27/day RESORT FEE? Really? This hotel is in the middle of downtown Portland. Where is the resort? What amenities am I getting for this?. Another example of the travel industry ripping us off by advertising a price and then charging more than the advertised price after you make your reservation. I wish that some government agency would put some truth back in advertising.
