First time you may notice at a glance is the size of the front lobby of this hotel. However, meet the people that will greet you and it just gets better from there. Rooms are clean (daily), comfy, with all the amenities that you need. Free cable and internet, what else?! Forgot your toothpaste or shaver? The respectful employees will get it to your room within a minute of your phone call (we were on the sixth floor!). I actually ran out of the hotel to catch a flight, within the rush I misplaced my wallet. Called the hotel to check my room and they had it at the front door for me, where I come from, returning a wallet just doesn't happen. Not as expensive, but still classy, Great GREAT service, clean rooms, TV, Internet, quiet, private, and located in beautiful downtown Portland. What more could you ask? Will definitely return here.

When you get down to it, it's the little amenities that often distinguish the good hotel from the exceptional. Such is the case with The Heathman, an historic property in downtown Portland. Don't be fooled by the rather simple lobby. Go around the corner to see the clubby lounge, where afternoon tea and evening cocktails are served in an atmosphere of comfy chairs, lovely murals, and a roaring fire. Follow that with a trip to the dining room for a truly interesting breakfast and dinner menu. Finally, (and most importantly) there are the guest rooms. Yes, they're on the small side, but attractively decorated, well lit, and furnished with comfortable linens. As for those little things? How about a French press for making your coffee, or tins of specialty tees with fresh honey, not to mention hand-milled soaps for your lathering pleasure.I'll be back!

Room Tip: Book a deluxe king.

Great location, excellent front desk/concierge and valet service - and wonderful rooms with fabulous linens.
If you eat in the Heathman Restaurant dining room as my group of four women "of a certain age" did, ask to sit at one of Norman's tables. In addition to first class service, he was delightful. The food was. of course, delicious. We couldn't quite sort it all out, but apparently at some tables you can only order from the dining room menu at dinner time, at other tables, only from the Bistro menu, and others from either. If it makes a difference to you, ask.

I stayed at The Heathman Hotel, while in Portland for the Rock n Roll Half Marathon, and I loved every minute of it! The hotel is conveniently located, just a couple of blocks from Trimet light rail stops (the Pioneer Courthouse Sq stops seem to be the closest), and also the pod of food carts at SW 9th and Alder (good food there!). From check-in to check-out, the staff were consistently friendly, pleasant, and charming.

Best of all, the hotel offered all runners 2 pm late checkout. So I was able to take a long hot shower after my run, then nap for a few hours in an inviting bed. Having just run 13.1 miles in the rain, the 2 extra hours they gave me, I spent them in heaven.

Thanks guys -- see you again in October for the Portland Marathon!
