First time for us at the Brody Theater in Portland ... parking north of Burnside on Broadway or nearby streets was not a problem New Years Eve. Make reservations online PayPal or in person; found it hard to get past the telephone menu. And then show up when doors open, typically half an hour before the show. There are two rows of very comfortable dining room chairs with a variety of seating behind them and around the back bar ... even a sofa off in a corner. We sat second row center and for this show it was perfect. Several standup comics, a script reading preview, and several fast and very clever improv acts. The three hour show was nicely broken with 10 minute breaks. A spacious and easily accessible bathroom is along a wall between the stage and the bar. Drinks available, and free water, too. Superb!
Brody Theater is all about comedy. The have stand up comedy shows, open mic nights; also workshops and improv classes. It's not the most attractive place - a bit dingy in fact and not big at all. It's more of an intimate setting with a bar, tables and chairs. If you like to laugh, or make other people laugh, this is a great place to do it.
If the title doesn't sum it up, go anyway =) & get there early for good seats.
Pretty limited menu, but the grilled cheese with tomato & pesto was pretty good.
