It was about 7:30 PM and I felt a craving for doughnuts. Fresh Doughnuts. So I hopped in my car and headed toward Sandy Blvd. Crossed NE 82nd Avenue and homed in on Annie's Donuts. As i approached the Roseway Theater I gazed to the left past Fairley's Pharmacy with its nostalgic coca-cola soda fountain look and feel. then I spotted Annie's Doughnut sign. Sitting up there like a bullseye.
Annie's Donuts is located on one of those wacky places in Portland where three streets converge on each other. And you puzzle over the signal lights. I was at the intersections of NE Sandy Boulevard, NE Fremont Street, and NE 72nd Avenue. I turned on Fremont and went around the block until I was sitting at the intersection staring at Annie's Donuts-- straight on. Once I got the signal, I drove to the back of the building and pulled into the parking lot.
There was no line inside. and I just ordered lickety-split. And got my order in a jiffy. I ordered a couple glazed doughnuts, a maple bar, and a chocolate bar. And got 'em all for less than a fiver! you can't beat that. You can't beat that at all.
Annie's Donuts has tables inside just like the old fashioned doughnuts shops from decades past had. They have that kind of vibe. Yeah, the good old days. No hassle. No sky-high prices. and no hipsters hanging about for their trendy snacks.
The doughnuts here are fresh. Cake-like. and very, very tasty, You could easily wolf them down withing minutes. Seconds. In the blink of an eye once they hit your taste buds they are history. They are that good, The best Portland has to offer
And the hours are great. Monday through Friday they are open 5 AM till 10 PM. Sat and Sunday they are open from 5 AM till 1 PM.
So nice to feel like having a fresh doughnut in the evening and actually find a place open for you. And not like the Voodoo boys with a shop packed like Grand Central station where you wonder if you will look like Rip Van Winkle by they time you make it to the counter to order.
