We had a very enjoyable stay at this vacation rental.
This is a very well appointed, and rather large, vacation home. Space is on 3 levels. The mail level has a main entry with mud room/laundry room and full bath. The kitchen isn't large, but it is functional. There are plenty of cooking utensils and equipment, along with more than enough drinking glasses, sliverware and dishes and bowels. All of the normal household appliances are present. Modern fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher are all present and function perfectly.
The living space on all three levels is at the forward portion of the house. There are very large windows spanning the full width of the main spaces on all three levels. The main level has nearly floor to ceiling windows with power activated blinds and excellent views of the Pacific, Nye Beach and the lighthouse. The upper level, which I would describe as a large loft, has similar windows that follow the roofline. The basement has the largest windows, but again, same view and the accompanying electrically activated blinds. You won't be without natural light and great views during your stay.
On the main level is one bedroom, a master bed which is connected to a private 3/4 bath with a stand up shower. This is the only bedroom with a connected bath. This bedroom is directly adjoining the kitchen/dining area. If others will be staying in this property and are early risers and make a lot of noise in the kitchen, this bedroom might not be for the late risers. The master bed is also rather small, barely large enough to hold a queen sized bed and two nightstands and a cabinet. There are plenty of blankets and linens provided in the house, just go looking and you will find all that you need. The cabinet in the master bed is filled mostly with blankets and bed linens, so you may be living out of a suitcase or overnight bag if you stay in this room.
There is a public living space and a bedroom on the upper level. Beware of the angle of the roofline. It is quite steep. THis is mostly a concern for those that are staying in the upper level bedroom. There is also no bathroom on the upper level, so keep that in mind when picking lodging. You'll end up having to walk down the stairs, through the kitchen to get to the closest bath. The upper level is well appointed and the bedroom is cozy, but not claustrophobic; at least it doesn't feel that way until you bang your head on the ceiling. So be careful. There is also plenty of closet space in the bedroom on the upper level. I found the upper level to be my favorite spot to sit and have morning coffee as it was both cozy, but also the views out the window were exceptional.
The lower level has a small wet bar with bar fridge, small microwave, and some bar equipment. There is an excellent flat screen TV and surround system in place. The TV connects to Netflix and has an attached DVD (or possibly BluRay) player. We only watched cable TV and Netflix while there, so we can't speak to the type of disc player present. There were very few instructions on how to use the TV, so good luck if it doesn't come to you. There is seating for 6 or so on the lower level.
There is another 3/4 bath on the lower level and a very large bedroom (not attached to the bath) with a huge king bed and lots of space. The lower level bathroom also includes another washer/dryer set. The lower level bathroom is on a pump system so don't flush anything but human waste and toilet paper. The pump can be loud and is easily heard from the bedroom. The pump system runs when you are showering, so keep that in mind if you don't want to disturb the folks that are staying in the adjacent bedroom.
This house is very well furnished. Lots of couches, chairs, footstools and ottomans. It is an absolutely great place to stay if your idea of vacationing is going someplace and nesting for a few days. The homeowners also have provided a selection of board games on the upper level. There are books or all sorts in different storage places around the house. The listing claims there is a DVD library, but we never found it. That doesn't mean it isn't there, its just that we never found it.
The property claims that you can park three cars on the location, however my estimate says 2 easily and 3 if you like playing vehicle tetris. It may very well be that 3 will fit on the asphalt pad in front of the house, but I can't imagine it.
There are plenty of kitchen towels, dish rags, bathroom hand towels, bath towels and wash cloths. If you have the maximum number of 6 staying you may find yourself needing all that is provided and doing laundry daily, but that really isn't an issue with two sets of washer/dryers in the house.
Cleaning supplies and detergents were available, but not in large quantities. We had enough laundry detergent pods to last us our stay. The same goes for dishwasher detergent tablets. If your stay is a week or longer you should prepare to provide your own detergents. Oddly, we also couldn't find any trash bags. We generated enough trash during our stay that we wanted to take out our kitchen and laundry room trash, however there were no trash can liners to be found. We made due till our last day, not sure how. Other cleaning products, like disinfectants, bathroom cleaners seemed in short supply, also. Maybe the cleaning crew brings their own stuff with them when they clean between renters and takes it with them when they leave?
The soaps and shampoo provided are standard hotel offerings, small tubes of shampoo and conditioner and the small hotel bar soaps. They were a very good quality, but for long stays, bring your own stuff.
Newport is a "long" city, so driving some places is going to be necessary, but Nye beach and a number of locations along the 101 are all within walking distance. Don't be afraid to walk someplace for lunch and then visit the beach on foot. However, be prepared for the nearly straight uphill walk to get back to the property.
The hot tub is very nice and appears well cared for. It will comfortably seat 4, maybe 5 if you all really like each other. The hot tub is private, as in it belonging to the property and not shared like a hot tub at a resort or condo. However the hot tub isn't super private in terms of its location. The property to the "north" of the rental has a deck that looks straight down on to the parking area/hot tub/fire pit of the rental. A small privacy fence erected between the hot tub and the driveway might make this a more private spot. During our stay the neighbor came out for 20 minutes late at night, vaped a whole bunch and yelled a lot at a trespassing neighbor cat. It was interesting
Aside from the vaping townies in the neighbor house, this was one of the nicest vacation rentals I've ever booked. We hope to rent again in the future.
