“Oregon Sunshine”
Reviewed 13 May 2012

Yesterday was a perfect day..... hiking the Tom McCall Trail, surrounded by Oregon Sunshine (otherwise known as balsamroom) with blue sky, warm mild winds and lots of sunshine!! Balsamroot was accented with blue lupine and a myriad of other much small wildflowers. The preserve has a lower, shorter trail with views of wildflowers overlooking the Columbia Gorge. A longer, higher trail gains 1,000 ft in elevation, so be prepared. No water or restrooms available. Closest facilities are at Mayer State Park

“Worth a visit when the flowers are in bloom”
Reviewed 14 June 2011

I was lucky enough to visit the area when the balsam root and lupine were in bloom. The viewpoint is very pretty with or without the flowers, but the flowers made it all the more special.

“The best easy access wildflower viewing...”
Reviewed 12 June 2008

If you want to see the famous Gorge wildflowers, this is an excellent place for it. Typically, the best time to view the flowers here are mid-April to late June, but it is a beautiful spot regardless of the time of year.
