Brookside is a lovely place with great food and host, perfect location and even great fishing in a pretty pond out front.

No idea what the person below is talking about, but Susan and her team are such gems I can't say enough about them. We just came here on a getaway from Portland and found the inn perfect. The beds were actually quite comfy and warm in a cool Feb night, then cozy fire was perfect before heading out, and the whole place was so quiet we could hear the frogs croaking at night. Breakfast deserves a line to itself - homemade granola with hazelnuts to start, fresh to order bacon and eggs, blueberry pancakes and French press coffee- just a delight.

While out wine tasting a number of vineyard owners gushed,"Oh, we love Susan" (and she hadn't suggested any of the places we visited). She and this inn are a part of this valley and we look forward to coming back.

We wanted a peaceful night in wine country, without the kids, so we could relax and sleep in. When we got to our room we realized that, like many others who have posted about Brookside, the rooms are tiny compared to how they are made to look in pictures. Not a huge deal, but this was one of the selling points in choosing them. And our room wasn't just "off the main floor" it was directly on the main living room, steps away. Luckily there were very few guests on this weekend because the walls and door gave no privacy. After 10pm when the other guests arrived, we realized that there is hard flooring on the second floor, as the guests had high heels on and we could hear every last step. In fact, the walls are so thin you can hear everything going on in the house. Some might find that homey, we found it to be a lack of privacy.
Then to are despair, apparently the only other guests in the place were directly above us (there are 8-10 rooms...), it would have seemed appropriate with many rooms available to point that out to the guests and try not to have them on top of each other. But that didn't happen. Of course with the walls and floors paper thin, the guests above us were doing lord knows what into the wee hours of the morning, walking around, making noise, and apparently wearing high heels the whole time...no telephone in the room to call the innkeeper or other room, so we vocally complained...and of course the next morning they vocally complained. The bed we had was soft, and concave on the sides where you sleep, comfortable for an hour or two, but by the early morning, we were actually sore from sleeping on it. So there we are up in the middle of the night while the guests above us herd horses thru their room and in a very uncomfortable bed, a great combination for what was supposed to be a restful night. Now comes the kicker...not only were the only other guests in the establishment right above us, but the owner's young granddaughter was in another nearby room. Early in the am she decided to scream for 30 minutes, a built-in wake-up call. Perfect for those guests who have come for a good night's sleep!
At breakfast the owner apologized for her granddaughter, and having kids we accepted what seemed like a heartfelt apology. Breakfast was another one of those disappointing endeavors which felt like it was run by someone not so serious or experienced about a B&B. Then you had the fact that the only two sets of guests in the house weren't happy with each other and both were at breakfast, and wow, what a great experience!
So after all that, it was the heartfelt apology that made us at least feel they were at least trying. These folks may be operating a B&B as way thru retirement and tax advantages, but at least they are nice and trying, right?! Then, half-way home, we get a blistering email claiming that the other guests complained about our language and behavior, so she was rescinding the discount. We're sure it's always appropriate for owners to play judge and jury for disagreements among guests and not take any ownership of the situation that led to that disagreement in the first place.
We've stayed at other nearby B&Bs and had much, much better accomodations and experiences, and at much lower prices. The other places are better built and offer far more privacy. The grounds of Brookside looked very nice, only we couldn't run out of there fast enough so we never got to enjoy them.
Reading all the other bad reviews here, I'm sure the owners will jump on in defensive mode and claim no responsibility. Our advice is that is how you reacted to our stay, you had the chance to smooth over a very bad experience, you were close...then foot in mouth. Sometimes it's better just to let it go...

My husband and I have stayed at the Brookside Inn several times in the past year. I really can't say enough positive things about it! The setting is very ideal...beautiful forest, pond and natural landscaping. Both buildings and all rooms are beautifully furnished and decorated with high quality local furnishings. The rooms are spacious and each have their own bathroom. The breakfast is always outstanding! The location in the heart of Oregon's wine country is perfect for visiting local wineries and the beautiful countryside. I think our favorite thing about the Brookside Inn has been Bruce and Susan, our fabulous hosts. They have been so genuine, friendly and sincere as well as knowledgeable about local wine, food and entertainment. Always a pleasure to have a glass of wine on the porch!

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful! Two rooms have king-sized beds.

After searching through numerous B&B's (Some never even returned our call) to get married at in September 2011, we finally decided on Brookside Inn for many reasons, mainly the wonderful adn peaceful surroundings. We also liked the fact that they request that you rent the entire property for the weekend (as we did) to ensure you dont feel rushed to have to leave so someone else can set up there wedding in a few hours (like some in the area we heard horror stories about) They let us choose our own caterers, music, wedding ceremony, etc. There were no rules to have to abide to (except to be respectful)

Your ceremony and reception were the ultimate in what Brookside Inn is all about. Comfort, relaxation, celebration! I can't wait to see the pictures, so I can add them to the wedding gallery on our website.

Your celebration was the first wedding hosted in the autumn months. The harvest bounty of food, autumn flowers, evening sky, and wonderfully cool temperature made it the best ever at Brookside Inn.

Thank you both so much.
