It's the Wandering Yank here. This was our second visit to the Shilo Inn in 5 years, and it will be at the top of our list for future trips.
Dated? Yes, the room felt like it was built in the 70's, judging by the faucets, shower, etc. But all was in fine shape. The room was huge, backing on to the Deschutes River. There was a fair-sized refrigerator and a microwave. The highlight was a gas fireplace.
If you want to sit somewhere comfortable, the lobby is excellent with some very nice chairs. The staff was delightful, very welcoming and efficient. The buffet breakfast was fine - cereal, eggs, potatoes, sausages, ham, biscuits and gravy, and pancakes. 3 mornings it never changed - a little variety might have been nice.
The highlight of the hotel to us was the forest setting. Lots of pine trees, the river, ducks walking around - delightful.
The room price was reasonable. Normally we like to stay at Hilton properties, but they were all a bit more expensive than the Shilo.
