From the outside, the Lamplighter Inn looks like a typical roadside hotel from the 1960s. If you pass it by, you are missing out. The new owners are delightful. When you arrive, you can expect a warm greeting and a friendly smile. The biggest surprise is when you open the door to your room. We stayed in the Whale room. Wow! They did a remarkable job in remodeling the room. Super comfortable bed. We slept like babies! This is the #1 issue for me in hotels, a comfortable bed. They pointed us to the Wheelhouse for dinner which was also excellent. The only thing I can think of to ding the Lamplighter for is their proximity to the highway. Our room was a little noisy from the road but there was some construction going on so there were more trucks than usual going by in the morning. I'm sure this is not as much of an issue when there is not road construction going on. I would absolutely stay there again and recommend The Lamplighter Inn without hesitation.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Marshall! We do try hard to make the inn a pleasant place to stay. The highway will always be there, but we do offer complimentary earplugs if guests need them.

We, two adults and two kids, stayed two nights at the Lamplighter Inn. The room is spacious and clean. The beds are comfy and the shower had plenty of hot water for everyone. Each room is uniquely decorated with sea creature themes. We stayed in the crab room which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. After over a week bouncing around on a family road trip, the Lamplighter was a nice break from interchangeable bland hotel decor. The staff was friendly and helpful and we will definitely b back on our next journey through the state.

It's a decent motel for a reasonable price. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. There was a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker in the room which was nice. As has been mentioned, there is no AC, and our room was on the highway side so we didn't want to leave the windows open. We had no issues with controlling the water temperature in the shower as someone else reported, but the water pressure was nonexistent. And this was totally my fault, but I read "double beds" in the room description to mean queen size, but they were only full size.

Bottom line: it's a decent, inexpensive place to sleep.

Thanks for your feedback, Dennis. We do try to be a clean, comfortable, economical place on the coast. Our 1960s plumbing doesn't have stellar water pressure, but it should have been decent, not non-existent, so we'll investigate.

So this was a dump - plain and simple.

First the good. It was cheap and the linens were clean.

Now the rest.

The rooms are packed in close so if you neighbor has a dog or children you get to listen to them. The cars back up to about 20" from your door.

The pillows are made out of foam chips or something- I don't know what.

The windows open but can't be latched or locked. Then again, there is no A/C so you have to leave the windows open anyways. There's a $10 Walmart fan in the room if you get too warm (we did).

The shower is ridiculous - it cycles randomly from scalding to freezing. You can't really point the shower head at yourself for fear of freezing/burning.

Would NOT stay here again.

We're very sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, Mark. We don't usually respond to reviews that resort to name calling, but for future guests, we wanted to address the water and window issues.

For future guests:

We tried and can't reproduce the experience this guest had in the shower, but just to be sure, we changed the regulator cartridge in the faucet.

The room this guest stayed in has a regular latch on the window (that works) and a thumb-screw lock for the window as well (all the rooms do).

The rest of Mark's comments are really just details of the property that he must not have taken the time to look at before he booked. We are indeed right on scenic Highway 101 in the old 1960s roadside-motel format of doors and windows opening onto the parking. We don't have air conditioning (no one in Bandon does, not even the Best Western), and every room does indeed have a box fan (though they came from Home Depot rather than Walmart, if it matters to you). All of this information is available when booking with us on any of the various booking sites and our website.

We had a lovely stay at this quaint little motel for the night. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was excellent value for how clean and modern it was, especially compared to other motels we’ve stayed in during our travels up the West Coast. The bed comfortable and the complimentary breakfast items were great!

It isn’t in Bandon old town but it’s only a 5min drive away. We would definitely recommend choosing this motel.
