Description: c.1821 | Dine | Drink | Stay | Great Food | Local Produce | Real Ales | Beer Garden | Log Burner Dogs, Walkers, Families, Cavers, Climbers - All Welcome The Moon Inn Freehouse is the last remaining public house in the historic and idyllic village of Stoney Middleton. Set in the heart of Derbyshire, nestled in the breath taking Hope valley. The Moon Inn is a traditional country pub, surrounded by the stunning countryside of the Peak District National Park. The pub has just undergone a comprehensive refurbishment, creating an interesting mix of rustic and modern interiors throughout, and will be offering luxury en-suite rooms in early 2016. We offer a comprehensive wine list, real ales and home cooked food using locally sourced produce. There is also a beer garden, log burning stove and private parking.

As the title suggests we enjoyed an absolutely fantastic Steak Pie in the newly refurbished Moon Inn. The pub has recently changed hands and is so much the better for it, with a new fresh interior design and menu. As the pie was obviously home made we will be visiting again to try out the other items on the menu, which all look fabulous.
Good value too.

Today we had lunch at the Moon Inn. We haven't eaten here for years, but we are on holiday in the area and heard that the pub was under new management and has had good reports. We were not disappointed, it was a memorable meal! All the staff were very friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived until the moment we staggered out, and the food was really exceptionally good. There were three of us and we started with the Monkfish Cheeks and the Thai Pork Patties. Both were tasty and generous portions. For mains we chose Gammon Steak, Rump Steak and the Lamb's Liver. My wife found the Gammon to be tender and was glad she had ordered the smaller option as she would never have managed a larger portion. Her friend was very complimentary about the Liver and also enjoyed the fresh vegetables served with it, pointing out that they were not frozen and were perfectly cooked. I had the locally sourced Rump Steak, and found that not only was it truly "medium rare" as requested (not always the case!), but the flavour and tenderness of the meat was superb. Rarely have I enjoyed a steak as much as I enjoyed this one. The price of everything we had was very good value, and we have frequently paid much more for vastly inferior food. As you can guess we will definitely be coming back to this super pub restaurant, and encourage you to give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

I visited with my wife and two friends for Sunday dinner. The four of us ordered the Sunday roast with both the ladies ordering the small portion of lamb, and the two men ordering the larger option, one of lamb and the other of pork. All four plates arrived fairly quickly, but all were swimming in a large amount of gravy. Vegetables were served in two separate dishes, and consisted of hard carrots, florets of broccoli, and small portions of cauliflower. We were never offered the option of Yorkshire pudding to accompany the roast dinner.

The ladies seemed fairly OK with their lamb, and my pork was passable. However, my friends larger portion of lamb was disgusting, with probably 80% of what was supposed to be lamb, being fat and gristle.

At the end of the meal, we made our concerns known to the waitress, but she had no reaction. She just cleared the plates away, and our complaints were dismissed without comment.

We were all hoping to have a sweet course and coffee at the end of the meal but we decided to pay the bill and leave.

We will definitely never visit the Moon Inn again.

We love a restaurant that welcomes our dogs. The restaurant itself was very warming and staff were friendly as well. My family member had the most phenomenal steak and ale pie and the rest of the family were extremely please with their food as well as the quality was top notch and the portions were generous. Would strongly recommend and hopefully will have the opportunity to visit again.
