"What do you want?" was how I was greeted at the Strahan Village reception centre when I dropped in to book a room. The person who was enquiring was the office 2 IC!!
The surly receptionist then offered the most expensive accommodation they have. I asked for something less expensive and she managed a knowing, sly little smirk. Feeling tired after the long drive from Cradle Mountain and a day on the water, I took their cheapest option. I was given a key and told to find my own way to the room. There was no parking available and I had to find a park in a public park (and pay the fee). When asked about dining options, of course I was told only about the establishments owned by Federal Hotels. (I didn't know that all these businesses were owned by the same group- a veritable monopoly appears to control Strahan). Such a shame. The room was poor value for money and in bad need of a refurbishment. My advice is to find an alternative to anything owned by the monopoly that calls itself "Pure Tasmania". More
