This was a real adventure tour with Rob, our very friendly and informative guide/driver. We spent most of the morning and early afternoon travelling down the rugged north-west coast. Spectacular scenery that is totally unspoiled was our reward. We then finished our tour in the Tarkine Wilderness area with its amazing rain forest where we were able to walk through a small section looking at the unique vegetation in the area. It took us the whole day and morning tea and lunch was supplied. The tour varies depending on the weather and the seasons and what Rob considers worth seeing. Great trip!

We booked the tour with emphasis on indigenous history and found the whole experience very worthwhile, with added information about general social and economic history of the area and birds of interest via well paced and informed commentary of our local guide. The day we toured the coastline was whipped with winds and the local rivers and creeks filled to the brim. Our only disappointment was ploughman lunch rather than something a little more gourmet, given the price of the day. We would do the whole thing again though. Judith and Gerard.

We booked the day tour with Tall Timbers Adventure Tours only a couple of days after the major bush fires in the Tarkine, so some of the locations had to be changed or substituted. This didn't phase our guide, Rob, one little bit. He had a great itinerary organised for us, one that included the most fantastic walk deep into the Tarkine forest to an incredible geological wonder. I don't want to spoil it for you - it was really worth the effort in very wet conditions. We also enjoyed some great four wheel driving through the forests, witnessing recently raised coups and untouched rainforests. The morning tea and lunch were delicious and plenty for all to go around - including some of the best wines we've enjoyed from Tasmania.

I can thoroughly recommend this tour - certainly worth the dollars, but most importantly worth our time. We gained a much deeper insight into the issues surrounding the environment in north west Tasmania. Thanks Rob.

Thank you JudieBBrisbane for your lovely review. I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed your tour and Rob reported he had a great day out also : ) I'm also glad that you didn't mind the itinerary alterations that we had to make due to the fires. What has happened is devastating, but thankfully there are many other areas of the Tarkine to see and enjoy including some which escaped the fire but are currently inaccessible for safety and operational reasons. The walk and amazing geological feature that Rob took you to is one of my favourite places also and unknown to many visitors to our region, so I'm pleased you had time to visit it. I hope you got lots of great photos!
Thanks again for taking the time to write a review and we look forward to seeing you again.

As part of a tour of Tasmania my wife and I took the Premium Full Day Wilderness Tour. On the day it was just the two of us and our guide, Rob, in a large 4WD vehicle driving around the Tarkine for eight hours, stopping and walking at various points.
Rob is an excellent guide. Knowledgeable on the history, evolution, flora and fauna of that vast area. A wonderful experience. Genuine wilderness, several major rivers, BIG trees (which some locals still want to cut down - amazing), wildflowers, grassland, spectacular coastline, aboriginal midderns and rock carving and a very pleasant and knowledgable guide to go with it all.
The only recommendation I would make, other than to undertake this tour if in the area, is that while you would miss the excellent lunch the cheaper full day tour, with the same guide, may give more time for exploring. One disadvantage of that of course could be more participants and hence less personal attention. But worth considering.
