“Luxury, off-grid and a foodies' kitchen”
Reviewed 7 February 2017 for a stay in January 2017

Thalia Haven is truly unique. You can grill whole fish in the indoor open fire, fall to sleep to the sound of fire crackling and waves lapping the shore, and soak in the outdoor tub under the milky way.

It's the perfect place to disconnect from the world and reconnect to your loved ones. It's perfect for several couples or families especially with older children. You will each have your own building and the kitchen is well equipped for large numbers.

It's the perfect place to disconnect from the world and reconnect to your loved ones. It's perfect for several couples or families especially with older children. You will each have your own building and the kitchen is well equipped for large numbers.

Your hosts have thought of everything. There are board games and water colour pencils to while away the hours, a sauna, snorkel and flippers.

Swansea is a short drive away where you can get supplies to enjoy a foodies' paradise of a kitchen. You'll find high quality kitchenware (a bread maker for example), an outdoor open fire for grilling, and a pantry stocked with every dry ingredients you can think of.

The building is beautiful and eclectic with stone that looks like it belongs in the environment, recycled timber from an old bridge and delightful details like door handles shaped as frogs.

It's perfect in any weather. If it's stormy outside you can roast marshmallows by the open fire, watch the swallows play over head and be mesmerized by that ever changing sky. If it's warm you can visit your very own beach, which has white white sand and emerald water.

Thalia supports local businesses and artisans including the rugs, soaps and even the brooms!

You won't know it but you'll be living off grid, Thalia sources its own water and power from solar panels and a wind turbine.

We stayed at Thalia for our honeymoon and it could not have been more perfect. It was peaceful without being too remote and had everything we wanted. We were sad to leave and can't wait to return.

“Family and Friends Time”
Reviewed 2 February 2017 for a stay in January 2017

After reading all of the previous reviews there is nothing to add about your amazing retreat tucked away in its spectacular setting.

Our stay was an experience that will never be forgotten, made extra special because of the people we were with.

Thalia Haven provided the perfect surroundings to enable us to relax, enjoy our time away and celebrate friendships.

I'm so glad that that Thalia was perfect for you – and the weather even cooperated :) It's always impressive when the off-grid power system completely accommodates a house full of people for a week! Thank you so much for your visit. I hope you'll come again next time your travels bring you to Tasmania.

“Disconnect and Reconnect.......”
Reviewed 4 December 2016 for a stay in December 2016

....... put your electronics aside, kick off your shoes, get sand between your toes.
Solidly constructed with architecture sympathetic to the natural environment of the secluded coastal location. Spacious and everything you need: good quality pots n pans, robust furniture that is practical and suits the ambience (nothing prefab about this place - means everything will last and last).
A marvellous home to spend time in as a couple or with up to 8 people in total.
We suggest you do all your grocery shopping before you check in because once you get there you won't want to leave! Make sure you being plenty of fresh food, including milk, eggs and other dairy products, ensuring you have enough for a few days at a time - that way you don't have to re-enter civilisation until you have to.

“Perfect, private and peaceful”
Reviewed 21 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

My partner and I were lucky enough to stay at Thalia Haven, and the experience will stay with us forever. We drove from Hobart, and wondered what we were getting ourselves in for when we turned down a dirt driveway and through a few gates. But WOW! When we arrived we were struck by how well this unusual stone and timber residence fits into the sweeping coastal landscape. It's perched metres from the ocean with the most spectacular views imaginable. This is not some cookie cutter sterile accommodation - it's got character: from the gorgeous random stone walls, the timber beams, down to the beautiful door handles, everything is carefully thought out. The kitchen is stocked with all the equipment and staples you need to cook up a feast.

We combed the beach collecting shells, made a fire, and suddenly found we didn't need to go anywhere else. Could we extend our stay I wondered? Alas the word is out and this place is booked out - so make your plans in advance, and book early, we'll be back.

But the beauty of this place is peaceful seclusion

“Truly heaven - an absolute must if you visit Australia!”
Reviewed 18 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We stayed at Thalia Haven for two nights on our honeymoon and it was paradise. The pictures do not begin to do it justice. Situated right on the bay with views of Freycinet National Park in the distance, the surrounding beach and property is stunning, peaceful and secluded. Spend the days watching the waves crash and in the evenings, enjoy the fully equipped kitchen, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and outdoor tub. We only wish we could have stayed longer!

The drive from Hobart is beautiful and Swansea is perfectly situated for a stop through scenic Richmond and for day trips to Freycinet and Coles Bay. Susan was so helpful with recommendations for restaurants, stocking up on provisions, directions, and any inquiries we had during our stay. We traveled throughout Australia and Thalia was a definite highlight for us.
