We loved the facilities, but mainly the food, all the plates we tasted were fantastic: wallaby, the soup, the nachos... everything.
It was a good surprise as we were looking for a place to eat something quickly and we discovered an amazing place.

We didn't stay here but we did stop for some food and coffee.

This was a mid morning stop after driving from Hobart to check out the Great Lakes, enroute to Strahan.   The old style pub had a fantastic wood fire going so we sat down and enjoyed a hot coffee ☕️  and a bite to eat for a break.

The staff are friendly and very welcoming. It's a beautiful pub and a great place to put up your feet for a welcome break.

Average food and a long wait…
We arrived and looked at the menu. Prices are expensive but I had expected to pay a premium for the “remoteness” (although nowhere is far in Tasmania). A large group was present but we were advised that they had all eaten. So we ordered. And then waited. And waited. Checked with the waiter a few times as we noticed orders coming out from people that had ordered after us. Was then told it was due to the large group (who had all clearly long finished their meals). My lamb was fatty, a small portion for the 20+ pricetag and average. The sauce on the plate had obviously been added hours earlier and formed a crust. My daughters burger was ok, but the onion rings she had been looking forward to were scarce. There were two on her plate. When we went to pay - the staff disappeared! Two staff behind the bar muddled about cleaning glasses, while the one at the register put her head down with paperwork. Eventually we were served. Won’t be back. It’s a pity as the location is lovely. The food and service were far below average.

Room tip: Try down the road? Or keep going to Bothwell or Deloraine

Didn’t know what to expect given the very remote location and the fact we were only staying overnight as a transit stop between Strahan and Hobart… but we were very, very impressed. The accommodation was well appointed and super comfortable…the king sized bed was cloud like. Regarding the bar and restaurant… the beer was ice cold, the food delicious, and best of all was the attentive and authentic hospitality shown by the staff, particularly the young lady who helped us check in to our room and then went on to be an amazing restaurant host. Was so impressed that I’d be inclined to make this a destination in future visits… not just a convenient stop over. 5 stars. Highly recommended.

I had heard a lot of good things about this venue and they all rang true. We had lunch and our food was excellent, the service attentive and engaged with each customer. Nothing was too much trouble. Lunch with a view over the Great Lake and snug against the elements.

Room tip: Don’t confuse the hotel with the Lodge up the road. The hotel is next to the general store beside the turn off to Derwent Bridge.
