Epic Location and Experience

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 29 May 2022
This is one of my most memorable and favorite hotels in the world. Its my second visit to Edge of the Bay, so glad I returned.

Rooms have a commanding and endless view of Coles Bay, you see for miles around and all natural, its incredible to be this remote in this nice of a hotel.

Yes, wallabies walk around outside your room maybe 1 meter away. Room is very large, fast internet and nice sliding doors to enjoy your large patio looking out over the bay. I opened the slider in the morning to listen to the pounding surf. Walk 50 meters to the shoreline and enjoy the rocks, the colors and the views.

If you want to get away from it all, I cannot imagine a better get away from it experience.

Enjoyed dinner two nites at the restaurant Lure on the property. Wonderful dinners, wines and great service both dinners. Lamb was perfect and the venison so flavorful. Great setting and wonderful dinners.

Memorable, simply memorable.

My wife and I recently traveled around Australia to celebrate her birthday. As part of our tour, we spent two nights at the Edge of the Bay resort. What an amazing place! We were in an Ocean view suite and the views were unsurpassed. From our patio and room we had commanding views of The Hazards and Coles Bay, with the sounds of the waves creating a lovely calming setting. On top of that, the beach was only a 30 metre walk from our patio. It is also a mere five minute drive into the park or two minutes into town.

The room was a good size and very well appointed. An extremely comfortable king size bed was positioned to take maximum advantage of the vista. The en suite had a wonderful heated floor, just right for any chilly mornings. The kitchen is fully equipped, less a microwave or stove. The fridge was of a sufficient size for us to store our food and beverages. There was more than enough cutlery and accoutrements for us to prepare a charcuterie platter on the second night of our stay.

On our first night we ate at Lure, which is a restaurant on the property. The food was wonderful. My wife had a truffle pasta, which was generously covered with fine Tassie truffles. We were so impressed with our dinner that we enjoyed breakfast there the following morning. I have to say there is nothing like freshly-cooked truffle scrambled eggs and fine coffee to start the day.

We have stayed at other properties on the Freycinet peninsula. I would happily say that, when we return, Edge of the Bay will be where we will book. It's a lovely property, with great wildlife and amenities, managed by a friendly, professional and welcoming team, at a price which belies what it delivers.

We booked a 2 night stay in the secluded cottage, mainly because of the cooking facility and laundry for $315 per night. We were put the furthest away from the waterfront that you could get. There was some water views however the trees blocked out quite a bit unless you were standing. The bed was so uncomfortable and sagged in the middle. It was jammed between beside tables so when you rolled over you hit your head on the sharp corner. The pillows should be thrown out, either too hard or lumpy. The washing machine had to be 20 years old and leaked over the floor. No dryer. We were told the water is a bit discoloured but omg it was brown. I did not wash any whites in case of discolouration. The shower had no pressure and made it difficult to wash your hair. The tv was a Kogan tv that had the worst sound ever and very hard to work. After 1 night we asked to be changed even if we paid more but was told there were none available. The restaurant which is run independently was top notch. Friendly staff and high quality food with great views. The downside was both nights having to manoeuvre our way through the bush and dirt road in the dark to get back to the cottage. No lighting at all. Overall I would never recommend this resort if you want a cottage. Having stayed at other cottages on our trip around Tasmania, this was such poor quality and for twice the price..

Room tip: Avoid staying here but the restaurant is top quality.

Accommodation round here is a bit overpriced – we suspect because there’s not a lot of it. But it’s a special spot, and this small-ish resort has a lot going for it.

Our room had large sliding doors, opening onto a deck from which you could step straight onto the tended foreshore and then just a few steps to the quiet, sandy beach with a fabulous view. Two bigger beaches in walking distance. All looked quiet (but this was early March).

Not everything functioned perfectly, but the room was clean, comfortable and simply furnished and had pretty much everything we needed, including a good coffee press (high quality coffee supplied) and (long life) milk in the fridge. It was handy having a free to use washing machine facility.

Located right on the bay, the location is great. We stayed in a king room looking over the bay. The room was clean & comfortable but there were a couple of maintenance issues that needed attention. Given the price, I would expect everything to be in order.

We recently stayed for our 30th Wedding Anniversary for two nights in an Ocean View King Suite. Rooms are beautifully appointed with many practical elements( such as a cheese board, nice coffee and toaster!) Location is fabulous and you step out to a small deck and then straight onto the beach. We also ate at Lure Bar which was very nice. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Will definately be back.

Room tip: All rooms have ocean views! King Suite is fabulous
