I booked on a full-day guided birding tour to observe and photograph local birds, with a focus on the Tasmanian endemics. I was solo, so tacked onto a small group (4 participants) guided by Andrew and we visited 4 sites around N & S Bruny, starting at Inala itself. Inala has glorious gardens and amazing birdlife, and our guide Andrew was deeply knowledgeable about the birds, trees, mammals, insects, overall ecology and local history. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge, and while I was primarily interested in birding, it makes so much more sense when you have knowledgeable input into the overall context of what you are seeing. His knowledge of habitats, local residents, bird calls etc meant that we were steered into seeing most if not all of the local endemics plus a wide range of other birds, mammals and invertebrates. I was able to photograph most of these, and generally had a fabulous time birding in company with others with similar objectives, and a deeply knowledgeable and caring guide. It is not a cheap day out, but worth every cent - I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it highly.

Thank-you so much for your lovely review! A full day tour is a perfect introduction to Bruny and the endemic birds of Tasmania. Thanks too for your feedback on Andrew - all of our guides have specialist knowledge and are passionate about making sure you come away from your tour with a deeper understanding of not just the birds and animals, but how they fit into their environment. We look forward to welcoming you back again.

We first stayed at Inala 14 years ago. This was our second stay in Inala Cottage and it was for 3 nights. It was brilliant. Everything has grown up so well, the bush is recovering over the former hay fields, the cottage garden is more of a paradise for birds, the Jurassic garden was interesting and the bird hide/lookout tower was great for the 40 Spotted Pardalotes. We saw all the endemics except the Swift and Orange-bellied Parrots, within the first day on our rambles around the property. The wallabies were great but our favourites were the several Antichinus feeding around the back garden during the day.
The staff were very helpful especially when we reported an injured Wallaby in the middle of the night and they went out to help if possible.
This also provided a great base to explore other areas of Bruny Island.
This provided a great start to our Tasmanian trip.
Andrew

Thanks for the great review, Andrew. It was a pleasure having you visit again to see the transition of the re-vegetation since your visit 14 years ago. The growth of our mature White Gums and associated planting has helped boost the Forty-spotted pardalote population. Pleased to hear you had time at the platform. It's a great spot to relax and watch the Forty-spotted pardalotes at eye level.
We also love seeing the antechinus busily scurrying about in the gardens and bush.

Hopefully you will visit again much sooner than in another 14 years :)

We enjoyed a wonderful 3 hour morning walking tour of the Inala property with Cat, who is a very passionate and knowledgeable guide and an excellent communicator. She found many fantastic bird species for us and also described the overall ecology of the area and the ongoing conservation processes occurring at Inala in a very interesting way. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. The 1,500 acre Inala nature reserve has varied vegetation types providing habitat for 95 species of birds including all 12 of the Tasmanian endemics. Great to hear you enjoyed your property tour with Cat and hope you visit again.

Everything about it was fantastic. The office team were responsive and attentive during our booking process. Catherine (our guide) is great company and it was a joy to spend long days with her in the wind and rain. Obviously knowledgeable and passionate about the nature, she paced the days to fit our energy levels and interests. Fantastic.

We spent 7 days on a birding tour visiting areas such as the Great Barrier Reef, Daintree River and Atherton Tablelands. Well planned and covered birds, animals, and places we most wanted to see. Visiting the Great Barrier Reef was a highlight. Accomodations were in nature oriented facilities were very good. Chambers Lodge was particularly beautiful. Our guide Ben was knowledgeable and personable and had a great sense of humor even after spending 7 days with us. Great tour for birders and nature lovers. Full itinerary allowed little down time.
