The location is dramatic - a long lake set in a steep-sided Welsh valley at the base of the mountain Cadir Idris. The Rectory is a beautiful facility - an old building (the former rectory for the church down the lane) carefully restored and updated with modern touches. The staff were invariably gracious and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, and the evening meals (also offered) were the best of our Wales trip. We loved our visit and will definitely return the next time we visit Wales.

Some advice: don't come for an overnight. The drive is long and on narrow, twisting roads. The B & B and its surroundings can't be fully appreciated without staying several days. Walk the hills, visit the nearby castle ruins, ride the old steam train down in the village, soak in the whirlpool, or just enjoy not doing in beautiful surroundings.

Room Tip: The second floor rooms will have a better view of the Lake. However, room 7 (downstairs) will allow you to see the comings and goings of Idris, the reigning kitty at the Rectory.

There is no doubt that thanks to our ranking on Trip Advisor - now 6th out of 264 bed and breakfast accommodation providers in The Snowdonia National Park - we are hosting more folk to stay from your side of the Atlantic. Thanks so much for posting this and for your wise advice to potential readers of it that tourists from afar cannot really do justice to this delightful area if they stay with us for just one night. It was an utter pleasure to meet all four of you and we were well impressed that you were exploring The Park on foot and by using public transport.
Best wishes, John and Ricky - joint owners.

The great thing about Sunday lunch here is that there is a good choice of dishes, and the vegetables are fabulous - tasty and plentiful. Delicious roast potatoes! Unlike many places where you pay per vegetable, they are all included. Between us we sampled most of the menu, meat and vegetarian options. The crumble for pudding went down particularly well. Thank you John and Ricky, for a consistently high standard. With superb views to match!

Victoria, I hope whoever cooks your Sunday lunch at homes doesn't read this .... or maybe its you?! Seriously, it was great to meet you all again and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your meal here and thanks for the very kind comments about my vegtables and apple and blueberry crumble. I have been staggered just how popular these lunches are becoming and with five days to go we are already full for this Sunday.
Kind regards from Ricky - chef and joint owner of The Old Rectory on the lake.

Just back from a 3 night stay at this little gem!
A beautiful property in a stunning location. No expense has been spared to ensure guests are comfortable in beautifully furnished bedrooms with large luxurious en-suite bathrooms.
Breakfast was a feast with many options to choose from fresh fruit to eggs Florentine!
We chose to have dinner here on two nights of our stay and were very impressed with the 4 course dinner that offered great choice, something for everyone.
Thank you John for making us so welcome (you are the perfect host!) and our stay so enjoyable. Your knowledge of the South Snowdonia area gave us some great ideas for visits. Thanks also to Ricky for creating some of the best food we have tasted, with fine dining presentation that would rival many a 5* Hotel. You are a very talented chef!

Many thanks Alison for describing us as being no ordinary bed and breakfast as we do try and go that extra mile and offer something different here at Tal-y-llyn - hopefully our TripAdvisor reviews do reflect that! Your amazing comments about us both are truly appreciated and thanks for coming to celebrate your partner's special birthday here in our home.
Our regards to you both down in Barry, John and Ricky - joint owners.

We stopped off at this place on our way to Anglesey. It was marvellous in every way. The welcome we got from John and Ricky was warm and friendly. Our room overlooking the lake was perfect and the home cooked food was sensational. Ricky is indeed a fantastic chef.
We cannot recommend this little gem highly enough.

Our stay at the Old Rectory was the most delightful introduction to Wales that we could imagine. John and Ricky were the perfect hosts and went out of their way to help us and make us comfortable. Ricky's cooking is not to be missed and there were always plenty of appetizing choices. Our room was charming with a lovely view of the lake. The claw foot tub was a joy to relax in.
The area is rich with charming places to walk and historic old churches to visit. The walk by the lake is particularly enjoyable
I give this B&B five stars.

Hi to you both and we really appreciate you leaving this review especially as you are still travelling in the UK during your six week adventure! It was our pleasure to have you to stay in our home for a few days and do thank Mike for teaching us some new cocktails to serve as sundowners. It has made our day Bonnie that you have awarded us five stars! We trust you have a good flight home.
