“Two night break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2012

Lovely hotel situated in the centre of the Shropshire market town. Break included Dinner Bed and Breakfast. Excellent breakfast and quality of food was good. Unfortunately the evening table d'hote was the same menu both nights. In a 2* AA Rosette Restaurant I would have expected a new menue each night. Rooms were good,; the staff were excellent; the bar prices were way over the top.

We recently stayed at this hotel for a friends wedding.

We found the staff to be so helpful and very friendly. We arrived very late and the staff helped us and we really appreciated the fact that the bar was still open.

Our first impressions of the room was really good. It was obviously recently redecorated and it was very large. The only thing that left the room down was the limited number of plug sockets. Most people have phones, laptops etc and there was not enough.

There was a letter stating that the hotel was under going some refurbishment and it was obviously needed in the corridors, stairs and circulation areas. The rooms and the event room were very nice.

We tried the spa on the saturday morning and whilst it was small, it was perfectly formed. For a space to relax in it was spot on. ONce again the staff here were very friendly.

The breakfast offered a good selection of items and choices of cooked breakfasts.

Overall we were happy with the hotel, its facilities and its value for money and whilst it was not the best hotel we have stayed in, if we were in the area we would stay there again. Which I think is a sign of a good hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay at our hotel. We pride ourselves on our staffs professionalism and friendly manners and your kind comments have been passed on. With reference to the limited plug sockets, this is something we shall look into if possible. WE take all customers feedback seriously and try our hardest at improving all areas of our hotel, however small. We do so look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel again soon.

My mum and I stayed over for a family wedding. We arrived early and were able to check in before the allocated time which was very helpful as it gave us time to freshen up after travelling over. We then had some lunch as the wedding was in the afternoon. Excellent food, I had the duck wrap and my mum has a ham and cheese sandwich. Very nicely presented on a wooden platter.
The wedding room was very nicely presented and the staff very helpful and organised. We were given plenty of time for photographs out on the green behind the hotel.
We then had the wedding breakfast which was of very high quality. We had tomato soup, very fresh, chicken with fresh vegetables which was very tasty followed by shortcake biscuits with fresh cream and strawberries- heaven!
The wedding party was then asked to sit in the bar area whilst the room was changed for the evening time. This was fine, but I felt a little bit off putting to guests that were not with the wedding party as we were all in the same room. Wasn't so much of a problem as we were only in there for a short time.
The room for the evening was nicely set out, the staff were very attentive and worked quickly.
We were served pork with apricot stuffing in a bun with wedges and salad. Excellently cooked and served, again very tasty, just enough for an evening meal.

Our room was very nicely decorated, beds were comfy. We had a view out over the green which was nice.
Breakfast was your own choice. We had cereal and toast. Quick and polite service from the staff for tea/coffee and to take orders for hot food.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay, well worth the money that we paid. £95 for 2 including breakfast, and we could have used the spa facilities if we had had time.

Would recommend this hotel, it is under going refurbishment at present, but is looking great so far. I would say the only downside for some people is that there is no lift, we got a nice workout- working off all the lovely food we had! :-)

Will be definitely using this hotel again, Im thinking of a spa break for my partner and I!

Thank you so much for your kind comments on our hotel and are pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are constantly trying to improve on all areas of our hotel which could not be done without your feedback. Unfortunately, it is not possible to have a lift fitted due to uneven floor levels but we are happy you saw the upside to this and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Booked one night for £55 each (took my Mum), which included dinner, bottle of wine, breakfast and 20% off spa treatments. Carpark a bit of an issue as people going to a funeral in the church across the road were using it, even though they weren't supposed to. I did get a space after about 5 mins though.
The hotel was nice, staff were especially nice, helpful & friendly. We were given a room on 2nd floor (note there is no lift at this hotel), which overlooked the bowling green so had nice views and was quiet, with the main road being on the other side of the building.
Quite a lot of stairs to go up though, so not the best if you struggle. The room was very warm (little too warm) but the heating wasn't on however; this wasn't a big enough problem for us to complain.
I went to the spa for swim, jacuzzi & steamroom which was very nice. The pool isn't huge but it wasn't busy so was fine. All areas were very clean & staff were very friendly. I had a treatment too which was lovely & left me very relaxed. The spa/gym/beauty salon is not joined to the hotel, it is a short walk from the back of the hotel near to the carpark.

The food in the evening was from a set menu but plenty of choice & was soooo good, with great service from the staff who knew we had a bottle of wine as part of our stay - we were very well looked after. We didn't go into the bar area but looked comfortable & cosy.

We both really enjoyed our stay & would come again at this price, even if just for the evening meal.

Be warned, you will need to book treatments in advance as they are very busy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel and 1st floor if your not a big fan of stairs.
