Returned here after a year when I was impressed by the extensive renovation which had been carried out. 12 months later the hotel is starting to look a bit run down and the breakfast was not as good as I remembered. The car park is a pain- difficult to find and rarely any spaces. Like many locations which comprise a pub and a hotel, the staff seemed to be torn between which takes priority. When we visited, we definitely felt like the poor relation. Staff saw that we were struggling with suitcases but did nothing to help. As we visit this area often, we may give it one last chance, but it has to get back to its previous high levels of service.

Room Tip: Inside of the hotel is a labyrinth- avoid if you have disability.

Good morning

It's disappointing to hear that your recent visit to us did not live up to your previous one. We pride ourselves in giving good service and we're sorry that you did not feel that this happened in your case. We hope you will consider giving us another chance in the future.

Stayed here as part of an overflow from a conference at The Cosener's House nearby and this was a real surprise. Wonderful period rooms but with all modern/1st World "needs." Comfy bed, good shower with plenty of hot water; spacious room with air-con, inviting restaurant and bar. What more does a weary conference-goer need?

Other than to head back again as soon as possible. Thank you, Crown and Thistle; you really are rather nice.

Stayed 3 nights as we wanted to visit Oxford and Blenheim. Our room was on the top floor which is ok if you are fit and healthy as you have to negotiate 20 + stairs. Room was fine. Breakfast cooked individually which was excellent. The staff very pleasant and quick. The location was excellent as we used public transport into Oxford the bus stop 5 mins away. Perhaps the reception area needs " lifting up" quite dull and boring " also possibley a supply of local tourist guide leaflets. Would definitley stay again and recommend

Room Tip: Just remember no lifts and over 20 stairs to top floor

Very pleasantly surprised by the choice and quality of the menu. Staff were very friendly. Looking forward to going back. One minor negative, our table was situated in an area which wasn't lit well... But it didn't spoil our evening, we just asked for more candles.

a lovely hotel with charm. there're huge differences between the rooms, we had a large one with the bath and shower (although we couldn't figure out how the shower worked). we enjoyed our stay, the only difficulty was a air con and the temperature in the room on night time.
