we had the most lovely status last weekend at a Bluebell Lodge. Colin and his brother David were lovely and couldn't be more helpful or welcoming. the bottle of wine and fresh flowers were a real treat and they went to every inch possible to make our stay nice. we traveled with our 6 month old daughter and it made it so much easier not having to bring a high chair or a travel cot.
Our son loved the garden, especially the miner birds (in the caravan park) and we loved seeing the ducks and being soooo close to the fish and chip shop!
we will be back! thank you.
We were met by the owner Colin who is a lovely guy and showed us around. Whilst there was only two of us, it would be suitable for either a group of friends or a large family. There are 2 sitting rooms- one with a large TV and open fire and a large modern kitchen with a sofa. We loved sitting there with our morning coffee looking out over the garden listening to the wolf whistling minah birds who live next door. I even tried wold whistling back at them (at this point my partner disowned me and I was banished to the spare sitting room). There is also a small stream running alongside the property which is so pretty. Weather was pretty wet during our stay but would be fab sitting out there in the sun. The library/study area is brimming with enough books to keep you occupied for at least a year and had a plentiful supply of dvds. Bedrooms are cosy with modern ensuite shower rooms.
The cottage is in a great location with a late opening Co-op over the road for emergency supplies of red wine, a fish and chip shop within a 2 minute walk (which I think is only open certain times) and three pubs within a 5 minute walk. What more could you ask for? We preferred the Black Swan, where we watched the 6 Nations rugby - very friendly locals and brilliant atmosphere. Also liked the Bluebell hotel although the bar area is quite small and it got very cosy on a Friday/Saturday night!
If you were feeling energetic, you could don your walking boots and trek across to Bamburgh (not advised after red wine and fish and chips) but we drove in and it took just ten minutes. Gorgeous coastline and beaches. If only we had the weather (sigh).
We hope to return in the summer.
We booked into the lodge with our friends who arrived before we did they told us is was very nice.On our arrival the lodge was a fantastic looking place with lots of room for every one. The old building and the new additions blended in very nicely. The cold weather did not stop us from going into the local pubs who made us very welcome. The firework display at 12 midnight on New Year's Eve last for a full 20 minutes a credit to all who donated to the cause
We would love to return
I visited with a few girl friends for the weekend. We were welcomed by the owner and shown how to work everything. The house is in excellent order and the kitchen is fully equipped and a very large space with a type of summer room. There is also a lovely garden. I would fully recommend this property.
