Owner description: The King of Castles, a fortification has dominated this site since Anglo-Saxon times when it was the capital of the kingdom of Northumbria. The current structure with Keep, curtain walls, towers and ramparts dates from the 1500's to the Victorian restructuring of Lord Armstrong. There are fourteen rooms open to the public including the spectacular Kings Hall, with over 3000 items of artwork, furniture, china and porcelain. The separate Armstrong and Aviation Artifacts museum gives visitors a glimpse into the creativity and industrial genius of Lord Armstrong, with a look at the aviation legacy created by his company after his death. The cafeteria serves great, fresh food and then a wander around the battlements completes a great day out.

Really enjoyed this visit. Walking up to the castle, it's massive and an amazing vision.

The tour of the state rooms was great, happily spent 1.5 hours there. Loved the fact that it felt a bit like a family home. I also spent a little time reading the `how do you know bambrough castle" book. We were slightly spoilt as an amazing sunny day (snowing the day before) so showed off the view of the Sandy beaches and the farne islands.

At £48 for two pensioners a little expensive, but having spent some four hours exploring the castle (and being made aware of its upkeep) and the delightful gardens with their remarkable water feature not unreasonable

Hi,

Glad you enjoyed the visit however I am not quite sure how you paid £48? We have one adult rate - £10.95 so for two people this is £21.90 - not £48. If you did somehow pay £48 I would advise you get in touch sort this over payment out.

Cheers Chris

Good coastal location and a nice walk from Seahouses. Good self-guided tour - interesting and the right length.

too bad we had fog thick as porridge and rains because this castle is quite well seated on a stunning hill, with beautiful scenery from the castle side but also from the beach side if you like to go for a walk. We did the interior of the castle which has a pretty well restored collection of pieces throughout the history, quite interesting and def worth a visit.

We went as a family of four (Kids are 7 and 5). It was £26 for a family ticket. We were probably in there for a couple of hours. We had a kids activity sheet which was great, lots of things to find in each room and ancient words to translate into modern English. Great views from the castle. Would recommend.
