Description: Grannies Tea room and Delicatessen was established around 1984, then the tearoom only held a couple of tables placed within the shop. It was only later, in 1989, that the intimate downstairs tea room was developed within the basement where the old fashioned coal chutes, old style steps, fireplace and flagstone flooring can still be seen. Grannies is a strong advocate for the local food movement in Alnwick, and offers a wide range of local produce within the deli, shop and tea room.

Out for a stroll around the market and called in to Grannies for a light lunch, Small eating area downstairs just as it says "like granny's old kitchen". Very friendly welcome, nice atmosphere and helpful staff. Food was excellent with a varied choice and most (if not all)homemade on the premises. Great value and very tasty. Only problem for less mobile people is the fairly steep stairs, otherwise, perfect lunch or afternoon tea venue.

We were looking for something on Easter Sunday and found this place by chance. So glad we did. Quirky basement cafe with excellent food and great cake. Prices are very competitive and staff are superb. Will definitely be back next time we are in Alnwick

I returned here after several months away and was reminded what a unique place it is....the restaurant is situated below a very well stocked little delicatessen shop in a fascinating historic lower floor accessed by a flight of steps. The menu has lots of lovely casual dishes and all things I have tried are fresh and nicely presented. Prices are reasonable and service very friendly. We think it an excellent place for coffee and scones/cakes or a casual lunch.

Stopped at Alnwick for a quick lunch and came across Grannies. Its just a little room, down in a basement, so not easy for anyone with mobility problems. I had delicious home made soup and husband had a large freshly made and beautifully presented chicken and bacon salad. Good strong coffee but sadly I had no room for a piece of cake because they all looked delicious. Would recommend and will certainly visit again when we are passing

Just called for a cup of tea ( which seemed to disappoint the lady) but it was warm and cosy and different so quite liked it .
