“Great room, great breakfast”
Reviewed 17 January 2012

I stayed in Oak House for one night in January 2012. The proprietor, Mrs Jonquil Gilbert, came to the bus stop to meet me (on her own initiative); unnnecessary as it was only a less than ten minute walk, but a lovely thought. The room was very well furnished with antigue and period-style furniture. The bed was very comfortable, and there was ample lighting. There was an excellent selection of teas, cofffee and hot chocolate, home made flapjak, and a Twix bar. The en-suite shower room was excellently appointed. The breakfast was plentiful, and of excellent quality, and the choice included good quality muesli, yogurt, fresh fruit, and a full English including a proper sausage from a local butcher. The bread was home made but, and my only minor complaint, was white and not wholemeal. Jams and marmalade were homemade, and served in jars, not those ghastly plastic sashets; ditto for the butter.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: This is a small B&B. I think there are only 2 (double) rooms.

We stayed at Oak House Bed and Breakfast for one night last weekend whilst visiting the local antique shops and would definitely go back. On arrival we were treated to a warm welcome by the owner Jonquil who brought us some delicious homemade scones with clotted cream and her lovely strawberry jam, which was an unexpected treat after a long car journey.
The double bedroom we stayed in was beautfifully decorated with antique furniture and the fresh sweet peas picked from the garden were a really nice touch.
I have to say that the best part had to be the breakfast; we ate Lincolnshire sausages, local dry cured bacon, and free eggs with homemade fresh bread, if you wanted something lighter there was plenty to choose from, but if you're a fan of the full English you won't be disappointed at Oak House.
