I stayed in Oak House for one night in January 2012. The proprietor, Mrs Jonquil Gilbert, came to the bus stop to meet me (on her own initiative); unnnecessary as it was only a less than ten minute walk, but a lovely thought. The room was very well furnished with antigue and period-style furniture. The bed was very comfortable, and there was ample lighting. There was an excellent selection of teas, cofffee and hot chocolate, home made flapjak, and a Twix bar. The en-suite shower room was excellently appointed. The breakfast was plentiful, and of excellent quality, and the choice included good quality muesli, yogurt, fresh fruit, and a full English including a proper sausage from a local butcher. The bread was home made but, and my only minor complaint, was white and not wholemeal. Jams and marmalade were homemade, and served in jars, not those ghastly plastic sashets; ditto for the butter.
