Waddington is a pretty little place surrounded by beautiful countryside and has 2 fantastic pubs (both with accommodation) to choose from. We chose The Higher Buck on this occasion and weren't disappointed. Delicious fish and chips, home made steak pudding and fish pie. All fresh, piping hot and tasty. The decor is clean; bright and modern but maintains the cosy, comfortable feel that the best pubs have. Definitely worth a visit.

We found this place by chance and how pleased we are. From the moment you walk in, service is fabulous, your shown to your table, drinks are taken. Mind if your a tall person like me you need to watch your head. Not a bad point. The food. Oh my. It’s fresh, tasty and top quality. Well presented, appealing to the eye. Prices might be considered a bit up there, but the quality is fantastic. I don’t think you can complain about anything here

Just recently, having read of many highly praised eating spots in the Ribble Valley, the good lady wife and I have been moving our attentions from the local spots in Yorkshire over to Lancashire. So, the turn came for The HIgher Buck to receive our lunchtime attentions.
Situated overlooking a junction in the small and delightful village of Waddington we found parking easy in their car park at the rear. The food was excellent with madam describing her Rib Eye steak as one of the best she had ever had. I was in a fish and chip mood that day (something about gastro pubs and their reminders of the traditional dishes). We both finished with strawberry cheesecake and coffee, which were both excellent. What's not to like?
Well, being picky, we found the long dining room, which runs the whole width of the pub, rather lacked a cosiness found in many old traditional buildings. This sensation was enhanced by the light colours and, a key point for two people who are both very deaf, the acoustics rather harsh. Service was, relaxed and the bill represented good value.
So, all in all, a somewhat curious blend that did not, for us, make a cohesive whole
