“Unloved, but well staffed.”
Reviewed 22 September 2012

Every staff member we met at this camp (reception, bar, waiting and so on) was extremely helpful, pleasant and polite. They really are a credit to the company. However, there are several aspects that we felt needed improving. We visited in mid-September 2012.

- The camp looks extremely drab and outdated. Even a lick of paint to the chalets would be a vast improvement.

- The swimming pool closes at 4.30pm, which we were very shocked at! The earliest we have ever known another camp pool to shut was 8pm. We go out during the day, so we were unable to use the pool and were VERY disappointed as we enjoy swimming thoroughly, and usually go every single evening! I feel this is far far too early as the vast majority of people are out exploring the area during the day. To be honest, had we have known this before booking, we would probably have not bothered.

- The caravan was, what we thought, a silver caravan. However we were very surprised at the cramped conditions (and there were only 2 of us). We have had silver standard caravans before, and they were a far better standard than this. The main bedroom was so tiny you would struggle to manoeuvre around ANY of the sides or bottom. This made it extremely difficult to make the bed. To be honest, I don't know how we did it! I did wonder if we were put in a smaller caravan as we were only a 2 adult party...

- The bathroom was extremely tiny too. The door had no lock, opened easily (just a push) and was right up against the toilet, which meant one false move with your elbow and the caravan would see you sitting there! NOT great!

- The shower was again small and compact, and did not have any real power to it and just gave a dribble of lukewarm water.

- Windows were VERY drafty, which meant the caravan was freezing at night unless we had the heating on constantly. The fire in the living room area was good, but the heated air vent in the bedroom was terribly weak.

- Curtains had mould spots.

- Evidence of very poor cleaning - the shower still had the previous occupants sponge in it. The wall in the second bedroom had a big sticker from a swimming costume on it.

- Holes in several walls.

- A dog friendly site, BUT dog poo everywhere!

- No parking near your designated caravan / chalet. There is a main car park, and that's it! You will just have to lug your luggage to where you're staying. Just pray it's not too far back from the car park!

- The good stuff - the bed was extremely comfortable! I think this was the comfiest bed I have slept on in a caravan and I slept really really well.

- The camp was quiet at night. We were fairly near to the club house but did not hear any noise from it.

- We only went into the clubhouse on our first and last night, and think it was very well run. There is a constant programme of things to do for the adults and the kids. The entertainers run some crafts activities on the main floor whilst the adult bingo is on, so they are kept busy. There is a wide variety of activities. I don't usually like holiday park entertainment and tend to give it a miss, but this was very well planned.

- If you do go here, you MUST play the linked up bingo on the Monday evening. They have a pre-game information video, and on Mondays it's hosted by Roy Walker (from Catchphrase) This is the FUNNIEST and corniest thing we have ever seen! It was one of those things that are so awful it's brilliant!

All in all this site is definitely worth a miss. It's in desperate need of a cash injection to make it up to par. It's such a shame as it's really well situated. I've never seen a camp as badly maintained as this one.

JUST ARRIVED BACK TODAY!!!!!

we booked this holiday without reading any reviews, we managed to book a monday to friday holiday for myseld, my wife, our 21 month old daughter, our friends and there 11 week old daughter.

about a week before go on holiday we decided to have a look at some of the reviews, after readingt eh reviews on this site i was in two minds if we should even bother going at all........but im sooooo glad that we did!!!

the caravan was amazing, we paid a little bit extra to have the gold plus caravan and i cannot praise it enough, immaculate conditiion, bed sheets on and in perfect clean condition, everything worked and it was completely stocked with what we needed. it even had an extra freezer and some brand new tea towels in the cupboard.

we was pretty close to the swimming pool and enjoyed out time in there, nice big pool, not too hot or too cold, always had a lifegaurd there and even had a small cafe in there.

ok, onto the entertainment hall........i agree that the decor etc is bit dated but it was clean in there and had a good layout. amusements hall was really big and gave you plenty of options. bar was always stocked and you didnt have to wait long to get served. the entertainment of a night was really good aswell, you could tell that all of the entertainment team tried and worked really hard. i couldnt praise them enough.

the staff throught the whole week were very friendly and helpfull, the person woring in the amusements even let my daughter have a prize out the 2p machine as she really wanted the little dog that was in there but couldnt win it herself.

finally the location of the camp is brilliant, there is a superb pub 2 minute walk away which does amazing food. also there is a zoo safari which is only 5 minute drive away, plus there were other things such as the miniture railway etc that we didnt have time to go and do.

overall we had a brilliant time and we would definately look at going back.

10 OUT OF 10!!!!!

What would have otherwise been an ok caravan holiday was really ruined by the fact that everywhere you looked there were cigarette ends and people smoking. My parents had a caravan that absolutely STANK of smoke and, as well as the overwhelming stench, there was an ashtray in the living area when they arrived. Which made it hard to believe the staff when they told us that people 'sometimes' smoked in the caravans although it wasn't allowed. There were fag ends all over the place, a little pool of them at the bottom of the steps that my children had to step over to climb up. So depressing. Our caravan wasn't quite so bad inside, but there was a huge rip in the wallpaper right where my daughter was sleeping and a LOT of stains on the carpets and furniture, giving it the general look of a squat basically. There's no way we'd go back here - compared to the hoseasons site we went to last year, where there were rabbits and ducks wandering around and lovely clean, fragrant caravans this was a real dive. Being by the main road also made it sound like a motorway hotel when actually it was right by the sea. Shame.

We booked this site through Hoseasons, having booked a caravan previously through them and stayed on a beautiful site down in Devon. Couldn't have been more disgusted with New Beach though. For the first time ever in my life I refused to stay. Having queued to check in, was given a key for a caravan and a map to locate it on the site. The 'chalets' that we had to walk past to reach the caravans looked like they belonged to a 1930s military establishment and frankly need knocking down! As we struggled down to our caravan I kept telling myself that it may look shabby on the outside but as soon as we opened the door we were hit with overwhelming smells of damp and cigarette smoke. On returning to reception to complain we were told that they could "bring the febreze" down. Were also told that they would offer us a chalet but they were fully booked - and on commenting on the state of repair we had observed were told that they're "better on the inside". I was grateful that we could choose to ask for a refund and leave - there were other people arriving who had obviously come by coach so can only assume they would be forced to stay there. I don't complain very often but felt compelled to write this review to just warn other people to steer well clear of New Beach.
