“What a fabulous spot!”
Reviewed 8 November 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Stayed here for October half term with my partner and our 7 year old daughter. The Pottery Shed was an absolute delight. Approached down a narrow hedged lane off a back road you entered the beautifully maintained garden with a large pond. Parking is adjacent to the property so excellent for unloading. Although the 'Shed' is in the same area as the owners house, once inside the property you are oblivious to this and simply enjoy the wonderful views of the garden and the wildlife it attracts.
The property itself is extremely well equipped, comfortable and cosy. It is nicely furnished with clean, crisp bed linen and tastefully accessorized. The bathroom is very modern, clean and has an excellent shower.
The Pottery Shed proved an excellent base to explore the area. Whilst there we took the walk over the fields to Bodium Castle, the walk and the castle are not to be missed. We went to Rye and Camber Sands, Battle(be sure to go in the Abbey), Scotney Castle(beautiful), Canterbury, including the Cathedral and Bateman's, the home of Rudyard Kipling, which was delightful.
Close to the property there are a couple of well stocked local shops. However, because of how well the Pottery Shed is tucked away off the road, you are completely unaware of these or, indeed anything else going on in the village.
The owners themselves were a pleasure to meet. They were extremely helpful, friendly and attentive to our needs yet, at the same time, totally unintrusive considering the lived only a short distance away.
All in all, I cannot rate this property highly enough. I would happily recommend it to friends and family.
Thank you, Sarah and Ian, for a wonderful week, as well as for the delicious welcome chocolate cake....yum!!

“Beautiful appartement, great garden and wonderful hosts.”
Reviewed 5 September 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We enjoyed to stay at Potery Shed very much. The Appartement was beautiful with everything you need for feeling comfortable. We could use the huge and beautiful garden whenever we and our kids want. The only problem was, that our children didn´t want to leave the place for visiting other places because they liked it so much. Sarah and Ian are great hosts, who supplied us with everything we needed.

“Wonderful, relaxing week away in a lovely cottage in beautiful gardens”

Really enjoyed our week away at The Pottery Shed. We have two teenage daughters (aged 17 and 13) who were dancing at the All England competition being held at Cranbrook and this was a perfect location for us to travel between. The Pottery Shed is situated in beautiful gardens and Sarah was a fabulous host - leaving us a gorgeous home made cake as an arrival present.

We had a wonderful walk to Bodiam Castle following the instructions in the information folder in the cottage and would recommend this. The tea rooms there were very nice. Also visited Scotney Castle - the folly and gardens are very beautiful. Well worth a visit. On our last full day we had lunch at The Tea Rooms in Sandhurst - and wished we had visited before. Gorgeous home made cakes and freshly made sandwiches/baguettes. You can pre-book Sunday Lunch here too.

The cottage worked well for us as a family, small enough to be cosy but big enough to accommodate the four of us. Very comfortable beds and we were all impressed with the shower pressure. Have stayed at too many places before when you have to run around to get wet in the shower! Plenty of equipment in the kitchen although the fridge is a little small but as we ate out quite a bit, this was not a problem for us. Having teenagers the wi-fi was a must. The patio outside the cottage has a table and chairs and this was lovely to sit at and just enjoy the peace and quiet.

We would definitely love to come back and visit this part of Kent and stay at The Pottery Shed again. Thank you Ian and Sarah for your hospitality.

“Magical extended stay”
Reviewed 19 May 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We are very lucky to be the guests who have stayed the longest at the Pottery Shed to date. It is a wonderfully located holiday let, converted from an old pottery, set in gorgeous grounds in the middle of one of the most beautiful areas of Kent. The holiday let is set apart with a view of the very large pond, trees and garden with the fields beyond - the location is very quiet. The Pottery Shed is perfectly located close to most of Kent's most sought after historic buildings and gardens: Bodiam Castle is literally a short walk away across the fields, Smallhythe and Tenterden are very close, Sissinghurst and Dixter circa 15 minutes; Scotney Castle not much further; Lamb House and the charms of Rye are a stone's throw away; Knole and Ightham Mote a bit further but still accessible by car - whilst the coast at Hastings with the Jerwood Art Gallery (very best fish and chips around with the best sea view) and the quirky shops in the Old Town, as well as Winchelsea with its smuggling history, unusual beach and cliff, all very close too. If you are interested in touring the famous vineyards Chapel Down is close by as well as Biddenden too. The accommodation is comfortable and the natural light wonderful. The accommodation has its own outdoor seating with a view of the pond for eating alfresco in fair weather. If the weather isn't brilliant there is a great deal of pleasure simply to be had from just relaxing watching the ducks and wildlife (herons, rabbits, squirrels, birds of prey in the distance) whilst drinking tea reclining on the sofa - it is a great view. The owners Sarah and Ian were hugely helpful and kind. The grounds are meticulously well kept and the accommodation is scrupulously clean. Sarah cooks wonderful cakes and her Victoria Sponge was a highlight when we arrived sitting waiting for us on the dining table. This is a perfect location for touring Kent and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Tenterden and Rye are great for shopping, Tunbridge Wells is close by too and there are plenty of farm shops locally to keep food shopping and self-catering a constant source of pleasure. There is also a hugely useful shop on the doorstep with fresh local and brand foods which can provide the ingredients for a meal too. We know the restaurants in Rye particularly well and recommend Webbes Fish Cafe and the Landgate, whilst The George is great for afternoon tea. Thank you to Sarah and Ian for having us to stay - it was very memorable and enjoyable.

Liked best: The peace and quiet, the ducks and squirrels as well as the close proximity to many visitor attractions (National Trust/English Heritage + others).
Liked least: Having to leave. We miss the ducks who all have their own characters.
