“Wonderful House and Holiday”

We stayed at The Tower House for a week from 20th August 2016. There were 5 adults and 4 children aged 2 to 9. We were very lucky as we had a lovely sunny week and spent a lot of time on the beaches. Which the children loved. We went down to Freshwater Bay, which is a short talk about 5 minutes. Its a bit stony not really sandy. But there are some great rock pools. We went over to Colwell Bay about a 5 minute drive. We did not have a problem parking in the car park near the beach and you can park along the road or on the common and walk down. Its a nice sandy beach and great for a swim as shallow. You have to check when the tide is in though. But there is a reasonably priced café, little shop for buckets and spades etc. Toilets. Very nice family beach. We also went to Compton Beach along the road from Freshwater to see the dinosaur footprints. This is a sandy beach. You park on the top of the cliff and go down the steps. Again shallow water and nice rock pools.
We went to Godshill. Very picturesque village and to the model village there. Had a nice cream tea. Also to Ventnor to the Spy Glass Inn for a crab salad. The family went to Shankin and said there is lots for children on the beach area and a nice beach. We went on the cable cars at The Needles which the kids thought were great. There are some children's rides up top. Stony beach but good for a swim. You can go on boat trips from the beach to The Needles.
We did not get around the Island that much as the weather was so good we mainly headed for the beaches.
For shopping there is the Co-op a short drive away. Large store. Also at the end of the road is the little corner shop which has everything and open quite long hours. We did not go to The Piano Bar in the end. But I had heard its very nice but open different hours each day. Not very late on some nights.
Tower House is really lovely. All the 4 bedrooms upstairs (all very large) were comfortable and two were en suite. The other two have wash hand basins. There is a large family bathroom along the landing. Also upstairs is the washing machine room with Airer. There was washing power and conditioner. In the garden at the side there is a rotary line. Downstairs was a double bedroom with family bathroom alongside. Large kitchen with everything you could want. Huge dining table. Sittings room is lovely and comfy with couches and chairs. Another dinner table under the window. Large entrance Porch with hangers for coats. Huge Hallway.
Upstairs there is a small office with a ladder stairs leading up to the Tower and there is a bed up there. We did not use as our children were a bit young. Through that room there is a first floor conservatory with comfy seats and flowers. You can sit and look out to the front garden below.
Paul put up the full sized cot for our 2 year old and also a stairgate at the top of the stairs for his safety.
Parking for about 2 cars on the front but you can park on the road as no yellow lines. Yes we found parking under the trees you get bird droppings on the cars. There is a small front garden with nice seat.
We used the Hong Kong Express for a take away Chinese meal. Very nice but a bit expensive. They do deliver though. The Fish and Chip shop in Freshwater village is very good but there was a long wait on a Friday. Much nicer than Totties fish and chips.
I would definitely come back to The Tower House. We had a really lovely holiday. Everything other people have said is true. Just read through the other reviews. Paul, the owner, had left a few bits in the freezer and things like salt and pepper, vinegar etc in the cupboards. Also a lovely bottle of red wine. He was there to meet my daughter and family when they arrived. We had a great holiday with great weather and lovely comfortable accommodation.

“Fantastic for all the family.”
Reviewed 14 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

A lovely house very well equipped and thoroughly enjoyed by 4 generations of our family plus 2 dogs.
Ideally situated for a family holiday, walk the children to the beach, beautiful scenery whilst dog walking and all you need on your doorstep.
Although we know the island well there are always new places to visit eg Tapnell farm excellent for the children, favourite haunts to introduce the next generation to eg Blackgang,Robin Hill and Butterfly World.
Choice of nearby beaches Freshwater Bay stony but scenic,Compton Sandcastles, surfing and cricket and Colwell ideal for children but parking can be a pain in high season.
Piano Bar on your doorstep for coffee and snacks, The Boathouse at Fort Victoria ,new owners this year (again) but doing are a really good job long may they stay there!

Management Response

Thanks Wendy, it was great to meet you and all the family. Sorry I could not do anything about the unsocial bird behaviour! Having large trees on the property is a feature, at least you didn't have the Badgers partying in the garden!

“Amazing house”
Reviewed 11 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

What a great house, we have just enjoyed a week of relaxation exploring and family time, using this gem of a house as our base.
The bedrooms are large and spacious, the bathrooms all lovely and clean. The kitchen dinning room is perfect for slow family breakfasts. The gas BBQ is great for alfresco dinning.
We were met by Paul and his 2 dog's on arrival and made to feel very welcome.
From Paul's recommendation we went to the Little Gloster, Gurnard for my wife's 50th birthday meal and can only say thank you Paul and we had a great evening.
We will be back very soon as so much more to see and do

“Amazing place to stay.”
Reviewed 9 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We chose Tower House for a family holiday to celebrate my 50th birthday. Eight adults had plenty of room in this spacious, extremely clean & well equipped house. Greeted by Paul (& his dogs) we were made to feel at home. Only 2 little niggles.....the fridge/freezer had opened bottles of sauces & ice cream in them ( no idea how long they had been there). Also, the telephone in the house kept ringing to the point we unplugged it. Otherwise it was the ideal place to relax & enjoy the Isle of Wight. We would definitely come again.
