“Jekyll and Hyde”
Reviewed 5 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

A Jekyll and Hyde property that has two opposing personalities.

First the good.
This beautiful historic building oozes character and is situated in a lovely village ideally based for exploring areas such as Ludlow, Hereford and surrounding villages. The kitchen appears new and well appointed although the fridge and microwave were found in the hall cupboard. It was clean and tidy with some good facilities such as wi-fi and a slipper bath. The 'welcome basket' containing crisps, sweets and apple juice was a nice touch. The main bedroom boasts a stunning vaulted ceiling.

Now for the ugly.
Our main complaint was that the house was soooo cold. Admittedly we stayed in February, but the current heating arrangements are clearly inadequate for the size of the rooms. The electric wall heaters were pre-set and although they were on 24hrs a day they failed to heat the house. Additional heaters were provided but added little. We spent all of our stay wearing fleeces / jumpers.
The standard size double bed in the main bedroom had two mattresses stacked on one another which resulted in the bed feeling very soft and caused a 'roll into the middle.' My wife and I both suffered back ache after a night in the cold uncomfortable bed and resorted to using the single bed mattresses. We each had to use multiple covers and duvets. Hardly conducive to a romantic break!
A good quality king size bed and mattress would transform this room.
The bathroom window needs a blind to provide some privacy.
We used the bath as a means to warm up but the water ran luke warm before the bath was filled.
I appreciate that this is an old building that has listed status and may have restrictions around central heating and double glazing but can't accept that the best solution is to wear more layers and use more covers.
Any guests considering staying here during cold weather should be warned what to expect.

“Great location in a peacefull and pretty village.”

Beautiful period cottage with an excellent master bedroom. Lovely village with pubs and shops only a short walk away. Great place to stay if you like walking and viewing the night sky with no light pollution. Cottage great apart from the following; The second bedroom is small with single beds. The kitchen area has a raised floor which is a trip hazard. The hot water system has a noisy pump, not great if you rise earlier than other guests as it wakes them up if you want a wash. No garden so nowhere to sit out and dine etc. During our stay the One show where filming which proved to be a pleasant distraction!
