“Beautiful Park for a Picnic”

Reviewed 7 September 2017

We recently had our Corvette Club Picnic at Providence in the shelter house. Very nice facility right on the river and built by the WPA during the depression. Well maintained and upgraded.

There is the canal, the Maumee River (adjacent), Isaac Ludwig Mill, and a canal boat. There is a functioning canal lock. A great place for the whole family. The kids (and adults) will learn a lot. Period costumed docents tell the story of the area. There is also a hike/bike trail which is about 20 miles long.

We walked along the canal and the river. It was clean and well maintained. Took some time to sit on one of the benches and watch the world go by. Granddaughter found at large turtle that really amazed her. River was moving fast due to the recent rains. Will come back and do a picnic on a day this summer.

Unfortunately the Mill was not open, but the small museum was...but not all that interesting. The hike offers paths on either along the river or canal banks and has an easy grade. It was beautiful in Oct.

Riding the canal boat, walking the tow path, and seeing the mill was relaxing and educational. Not to mention beautiful.
